A two-day Course on Leaf and Soil Sampling and Recommendation for Multicrop Plants was successfully conducted on 20–21 April 2026 at the Seminar Room, PPPTAR, as well as at Janaplasma Farm and the Leaf and Soil Laboratory, FGV Analytical Laboratory.
The programme was attended by 31 participants from various disciplines, including chemists, agronomists and field sampling personnel from FGV Agri Services Sdn Bhd and FGV R&D Sdn Bhd.
The course was delivered by ChM Dr. Mohd Firdaus Mohd Anuar, Senior Lecturer from the Department of Soil Management, Faculty of Agriculture, University Putra Malaysia, with assistance from Mr. Annur Mohd Razib and Mr. Ahmad Faisal Mohd, Assistant Science Officers from University Putra Malaysia.
The course aimed to equip participants with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in conducting leaf and soil sampling, as well as formulating accurate recommendations for multicrop plants. Emphasis was placed on understanding the critical role of sampling in nutrient management, alongside the application of correct techniques for various crops such as coconut, durian, pineapple, and bamboo.
Participants were also trained and guided on identifying appropriate sampling timing, locations, and methods based on crop type and growth stages. Hands-on field activities enabled participants to practice standardized sampling procedures in accordance with established standard procedures, including proper handling, labelling, storage, and preparation of samples prior to laboratory analysis.
In conclusion, the course successfully strengthened participants’ technical proficiency and promoted the adoption of standardized best practices in leaf and soil sampling, thereby supporting informed agronomic decision-making for multicrop plantation.
