Di Australia, sebuah rumah yang sederhana bernilai A$660,000, manakala sebuah Honda Civic berharga A$30,000. Ini bermakna sebuah rumah sederhana di Australia boleh membeli 22 Honda Civics, berbanding sebuah rumah sederhana di malaysia berharga RM250,000 yang harganya hanya boleh membeli dua buah Honda model yang sama. Rumah kita tidaklah murah tetapi kereta di Malaysia adalah terlalu mahal.

Sebuah rumah di United States dan United Kingdom. boleh membeli 12 dan 16 Honda Civics, masih murah berbanding Malaysia. Belum lagi termasuk kos-kos bersama sebuah kereta, insuran, repair, tol, minyak, parking dan lain-lain.

Our cars are so expensive that the rakyat, especially the younger generation, are forced to put off buying a home until they can afford it. In the meantime, that “wait” causes house prices to appreciate, thus making it even more unaffordable for these people to own a home. This vicious cycle will continue until the government has a permanent solution to address both public transportation and affordable housing.

Tentunya, pihak berwajib perlu dengan lebih teliti menilai kembali polisi harga kereta di Malaysia. Juga sejauh mana polisi, kepentingan mempertahankan kereta nasional yang menjadi antara sebab tingginya harga kereta lain, sama ada keadaan ini masih relevan sedangkan ia semakin menyukarkan majoriti rakyat.
