EXTENSION OF MORATORIUM FROM RENEWING MOTOR VEHICLE LICENSE AND MALAYSIAN DRIVING LICENSE UNTIL 31 DECEMBER 2021
The Ministry of Transport acknowledges the feedback and difficulties faced by many *recently* when attempting to use public services such as those under the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and other agencies during the current COVID-19 pandemic.
In this regard, the Ministry has decided to extend the moratorium to renew Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM) and Malaysian Driving Licenses (LMM) until 31st December 2021. In line with this decision, expired LKM and LMM *will not be subject to enforcement and compliance activities* by JPJ and Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) until 31 December 2021.
However, holders of LKM expiring within the stip**ated period need to ensure that their vehicles have valid insurance. The insurance e-cover note should be *displayed as needed including for inspection purposes.*
Additionally, the Ministry has *taken the initiative to alleviate the rakyat’s concerns* in completing their transactions by making the decision to operate all service counters at 100% capacity in JPJ and its strategic partners such as PUSPAKOM and allowing walk-in clients from 6 September 2021. This is aimed at ensuring that more people would be able to renew their LKM and LMM during the given period.
*Customers who wish to transact at JPJ counters must have received full vaccination as a necessary precaution to safeguarding the public’s health and safety during this unprecedented period, including staff on duty. At the same time, visitors’ MySejahtera apps must also show Low-Risk status.*
*From 6 September 2021, JPJ will cease the online appointment system in favour of walk-ins for fully vaccinated clients at JPJ counters during this time.*
The public is also encouraged to use existing online services available on JPJ’s mySIKAP (https://public.jpj.gov.my), or their other strategic partners such as PosMalaysia Berhad, MyEG and PUSPAKOM for related transactions. This is to reduce crowds at JPJ branches and ensure a more positive experience for the public when renewing their LKM and LMM.
