Today, during lunch, I attended a webinar organised by AIA in which a Nephrologist was invited to share his knowledge about “Chronic Kidney Disease” (CKD). These are some of the salient points that I learnt:
1) Hypertension and diabetes are the main causes of CKD
2) Not all medications cause CKD. However, consuming certain medications on a long term basis can cause CKD (for example Lithium a mood stabilizer and NSAIDs like Voltaren and Celebrex)
3) CKD is not reversible
4) Symptoms of CKD will only start showing when it is at later or end stage and not at early stage. Hence, it is advisable to always do routine blood works like the Renal Function Test to regularly monitor how healthy our kidneys are.
This is where your AIA medical plans like A Plus Health and A Plus Health 2 can assist as yearly you can claim either RM300 (A Plus Health) or RM500 (A Plus Health 2) from the amount that is available from your health walllet, to do general health screening.
