I am a huge fan of the Lord of The Rings series. A story about good vs evil. About friendship, loyalty, camaraderie , patience and perseverance - qualities that we should embrace in all aspects of our lives. The background music is mind blowing. All the characters are special and unique. I especially adore Samwise Gamgee (a loyal and reliable friend) and Ghimli the dwarf (the courageous dwarf with a great sense of humour). Who is your favourite character in the Lord of the Rings Series ?

Idiom of the day: The last hurrah

From the perspective of financial planning, we often hear the phrase "the last hurrah" — a final celebration before moving on to a new chapter.

Many a times in our daily lives, we come across friends, relatives, colleagues, superiors or clients who are difficult or demanding. It’s easy to let our emotions get the best of us and we may end up replying their message or email in a rude or unprofessional manner. That would cast a bad light on us.

Always make it a point to stay calm and professional and before sending out the message or email, do this:

1) read the message out aloud and ask yourself “if the person were right in front of me, would I have said it like that”?

2) if the message or email was read out aloud say in front of the office’s complains unit or in front of other colleagues or relatives, how would it sound to them ?

There are many ways to skin a cat. We can put forward our point in a rude or brash manner and spoil our reputation and relationships or be polite and yet assertive.

A new word I learned today. My dad’s friend used this word to describe the time when he graduated from university and was searching for a job.

Many Malaysians believe insurance companies don’t pay claims.

Yet in 2024 alone, AIA Malaysia paid approximately RM5.75 billion in claims, while industry statistics showed that 94% of initial guarantee letters and 97% of final guarantee letters were approved (“When Coverage Runs Thin”, Sunday Star, 24 May 2026).

Why are some claims rejected?
• Non-disclosure of medical information at policy application stage �• Policy exclusions�• Policy lapsed due to unpaid premiums�• Waiting periods not completed�• Claims that do not meet policy definitions

Many rejected claims are not due to fraud, but because policyholders did not fully understand what they purchased.

Insurance is a promise backed by a contract. When the terms are met, claims are paid.
