This infographic from Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad offers a compelling snapshot of the company’s total claims payout for the period from January to December 2024, amounting to a substantial RM2.78 billion. It reflects Prudential’s steadfast commitment to delivering peace of mind and comprehensive support to policyholders during their times of need.
The largest portion of this payout—RM2.05 billion—was dedicated to medical claims, demonstrating the significant healthcare needs among Malaysians. This is followed by RM387 million in death and disability claims, RM313 million in critical illness payouts, and RM33 million in personal accident support.
Delving deeper, the top five reasons for hospitalisation reveal pressing health concerns affecting the population. Heart disease led the chart with RM120 million in claims and a single case reaching as high as RM191,000. This was closely followed by breast cancer (RM75 million), cataract (RM66 million), pneumonia (RM64 million), and gastritis (RM64 million). These figures underscore the critical importance of having robust medical protection to guard against common yet costly medical conditions.
In terms of critical illness, cancer accounted for the highest payout—RM194 million—with a single claim soaring to RM1.76 million. Heart disease followed with RM67 million, and kidney disease with RM14 million. These figures highlight not only the prevalence of these illnesses but also the financial strain they can impose on individuals without sufficient insurance coverage.
