You have never bought a barrel of oil in your life. You are still going to pay for this one.
Brent crossed US$100 on 9 September and was around 107 by the 15th. Here is how it gets into a small business.

Your MyKad gets RM1.99 petrol and RM2.10 diesel, up to the quota. The van and the lorry pay market price unless they are on the RM2.15 fleet card. Unsubsidised diesel hit RM4.92 on 10 September, up 25 sen in a week.

Since July last year your TNB bill has a line that moves every month with gas and coal. This month it adds 3.67 sen a unit. On 5,000 units, about RM184. And it lags, so today's oil lands on a later bill.

Freight, packaging, anything plastic, anything shipped in. Your supplier fills up at the same pump. You find out on his next quote.

Bank Negara kept the rate at 2.75% on 3 September. Roughly what they said: costs are rising, shop prices have held so far. If that changes, the rate is their tool, and your loan follows the OPR. Next decision, 5 November.
That last door is the one we know. Three things to do this week, from our side of the table.
๐ญ. Check what every loan and overdraft is pegged to. If it moves with the OPR, know it before 5 November, not after.
๐ฎ. Take this month's extra fuel, power and supplier costs, times three. That is what your cash has to carry until oil settles. See if it can.
๐ฏ. If you will need working capital, arrange it now while your recent months still look good. Banks lend on recent numbers, and the numbers will not get better from here.
Pump, meter, lorry or bank. Which one hit you first?
