🌳 Sarawak's carbon market is moving from plans to licences.
The state has issued carbon credit trading licences to 3 entities, covering 56,806 hectares. One licence is still being validated by an accredited body, and the other two were only just issued.
Another 8 carbon study permits have been granted, covering 179,327 hectares. These let holders carry out studies and prepare the project design documents they need before a full carbon licence can be approved.
How it works:
✅ Projects must be validated and verified by internationally recognised bodies
✅ Once certified, credits can be issued and registered
✅ They can then be traded in domestic and international markets
What about local communities? Deputy Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh said locals can benefit through jobs, boat rentals and labour support, plus training in forest replanting, nursery management, forest inventory, biomass assessment and sustainable resource management.
The real economic value begins once credits are certified and traded. 🌏
