A quiet sentence worth noticing

CIMB just settled Malaysia's first tokenised sukuk using tokenised deposits: RM1.38 billion, 12 institutional investors, sukuk and cash settling together on-chain. The technology is the headline everyone will chase.

The sentence we should be chasing is quieter: the tokenisation layer did not alter the underlying economic or Shariah structure of the sukuk.

That matters because moving fast is easy. Moving fast without letting the contract, the Shariah opinion, or the governance drift is the hard part. This pilot managed that, inside a regulatory sandbox, with the Shariah structure untouched.

We note with pride that CIIF Chartered Members were part of the teams behind this, in management and at board level. Good to know our designation is doing real work in the market.

A New Partnership in the Philippines

Last week, CIIF made its first introduction to the Philippine professional community through the RA 11439 at 7 webinar, featuring Dr. Azura Othman, CEO of CIIF, on professional competencies and qualification pathways in Islamic finance.

Today, 28 August 2026, we are pleased to take the next step with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between CIIF and M&T Consultancy Islamic Co.

Present at today’s signing from M&T were Managing Partner, Mr. Hamodi Lao Tiboron, and Operations and Finance Partner, Mr. Mohammad Zidni Salvador Marohombsar.

The partnership will explore collaboration in professional certification, CPIF pathways, talent development, capacity building, membership and industry engagement to strengthen the Islamic finance professional ecosystem in the Philippines.

From first engagement to formal partnership, we look forward to building the journey together.
