Save the beaches? Drink more beer!

DB Export created a machine which turns empty beer bottles into a sand substitute. Bottles placed inside the machine is instantly crushed, leaving behind glass sand. This would eliminate glass bottles out of landfills, and the sand is distributed to the companies in need.

Self driving cars are the vehicle of the future that are already here. Google has been developing and testing self driving cars, with Waymo being one of them, since 2009. Waymo’s first milestone was achieved in 2015, when it delivered the world’s first fully driverless ride on public roads with a blind man.

Today, Waymo vehicles are test-driving on public roads, operating without anyone in the driver’s seat. The vehicles are equipped with distinctive safety features necessary for full autonomy, capable of ensuring vehicles can come to a safe stop, if needed.

Self driving technology is set to change everything we know about transport and travel. G Plus is China’s stake in driverless technology, the brainchild of giants Alibaba and Robosense. Delivery and transport will never be the same again. Check out how it works here :

Two Chinese titans, Alibaba and RoboSense has jointly announced its latest driverless delivery vehicle, the G-Plus. G-Plus robots can adapt and alter its size to cater to various shapes and sizes of packages. Upon reaching the delivery address, the robot will either deposit the package, or the customer has to enter the PIN code to retrieve it.

The vehicle moves at an average speed of 6.2 miles per hour, with a top speed of 9.3 miles per hour with smooth traffic. It uses solid state LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology, which uses laser sensors to create a 3D map of its surroundings and navigate around. This rendered G-Plus the first unmanned logistics vehicle in the world to implement this technology.

The unmanned vehicle is currently being tested out on roads surrounding their headquarters in Hangzhou, with plans to initialize commercial production within year end. With LiDAR being cheaper and more reliable, the vehicle and be mass produced, allowing rapid expansion.

Always forgetting your passwords? Afraid of phishing scams? Tired of changing your password every 3 months? Fear not as web browsers are developing an easier and much safer way for you to log in.

Firefox, Chrome, and Edge will soon cater to a new open standard called Web Authentication (WebAuthn), which moves users away from passwords towards more protected login methods. When implemented, you will be able to use a device to detect your identity using an app, biometric data, or a special USB security key.

WebAuthn has an incredible advantage as it uses encrypted public and private keys, therefore there are no passwords stored in the website’s database. Without letters, numbers, or characters, this authentication method makes it a lot harder for hackers to pull off phishing scams.

SF Express has become the first company to successfully obtain an operating license for drone delivery in China.
The country’s civil aviation regulator, Civil Aviation Administration (CAAC), granted the license on 27th of March 2018 for pilot operations of drone deliveries to a Jiangxi-based subsidiary of SF Express.

SF Express has begun establishing its drone network since 2017. Drone delivery tests have constantly been carried out, with trials such as carrying eggs from a mountainous hometown to the nearest township. None of the eggs were broken when transported with drones.
Drone models have been developed to carry goods weighing up to 25 kilograms with a flight range of up to 100 kilometres. Most of the drone models are designed for delivery services to customers.

The company is currently developing a logistics network with large and small drones which cater deliveries of any sizes. The network is aimed to enable SF Express to deliver parcels anywhere in the country within 36 hours. The company also hopes to achieve a large-scale commercial operation of big drones by 2019.
