Starting July, electricity consumers in Peninsular Malaysia will enjoy existing or lower tariff rates, except for high-consumption domestic users whose monthly bill is at least RM708. They will see a minimum 25% increase in charges.

According to a recent article by CoinDesk, Malaysia has a lot of potential to become a leader in the crypto space, thanks to its supportive regulations, vibrant community, and growing adoption.

Some of the factors that make Malaysia attractive for crypto are:

The Securities Commission (SC) has approved four digital asset exchanges (DAXs) to operate legally in the country: Luno, SINEGY, Tokenize, and MX Global.

The SC has also issued guidelines for initial exchange offerings (IEOs), security token offerings (STOs), and digital asset custodians (DACs), creating a clear framework for crypto businesses and investors.

The Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has recognized crypto as a legitimate medium of exchange and has issued anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CTF) guidelines for crypto service providers.

The Malaysian public has shown a high level of interest and awareness in crypto, with Luno reporting over 2 million users in the country as of June 2021.

These developments show that Malaysia is embracing crypto as a new and innovative way to participate in the global economy. 🌎
