CONGRATULATIONS!
UNIVERSITI MALAYA (UM) BREAKS INTO THE WORLD’S TOP 10%!

UM has achieved its best-ever position in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026, now ranked in the 201–250 band, placing us among the Top 10% of 2,191 universities worldwide and joint No.1 in Malaysia.

THE-WUR is a research intensive university ranking system which measures university performance across 5 pillars which are Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry, and International Outlook. The strength of the University could be seen through its best performing pillar which is International Outlook where the University ranked at 107th (increased 37 places) for this indicator.

Other pillars also saw significant improvement compared to the previous year where the University ranked 167th (increased 30 places) in Teaching, 280th (increased 41 places) in Research Environment, 530th (increased 75 places) in Research Quality, and 632nd (increased 55 places) in Industry.

UM will keep striving for excellence fulfilling its role as the nation’s flagbearer in the higher education global arena while moving towards its goals and aspirations envisaged in Universiti Malaya’s Vision - A global university impacting the world.
