Is your pension on autopilot?

Most workplace pensions default into a "lifestyling" strategy, gradually shifting from shares into bonds and cash as retirement approaches. For some, this de-risking can start as early as age 45, meaning 15+ years spent in low-growth assets while still trying to build wealth.

Wealth management and tax planning have always been closely linked, but clients don't always benefit from that connection unless their advisors are working together. This partnership brings our wealth planning expertise together with HernanCres Malaysia's tax and corporate advisory specialism, giving clients access to coordinated, well-rounded guidance under one advisory relationship.

"This partnership is about giving clients access to the full picture," said Chris Crowe, Director of Melbourne Capital Group.

You've spent 30+ years paying into the UK State Pension. In some countries, that pension stops growing the day you claim it.

According to the UK parliament (2024), 453,000 British pensioners abroad found this out the hard way this year, receiving zero increase while the triple lock pushed pensions up back home.

Adam Humphries from Melbourne Capital Group, explains why this happens: if you retire to a country without a reciprocal uprating agreement with the UK, including most of Asia, Malaysia included, your pension stays fixed at whatever rate applied when you first claimed it. Based on current figures, that can mean missing out on approximately ÂŁ70,000 over a 20 year retirement.

This is a critical factor to understand before deciding whether topping up your National Insurance record is worth it, since a frozen pension changes the entire value calculation.

Can Mark retire at 60?

That's the question Mark and Claire, a British couple living in Malaysia, brought to their financial planning process. Solid income and savings on paper, but pensions tied to the UK, lifestyle costs in Malaysia, and rental income from overseas made the full picture more complex than it first appeared.

This article walks through how cashflow modelling helped turn a vague retirement goal into a testable plan, stress-testing whether their current mix of savings and investments could carry them through retirement, or whether adjustments were needed along the way.

Many people want exposure to AI. Few know where to actually look.

In this clip from our recent webinar with Alger, Brad and Chris break down how they think about investing in AI, through both enablers (the infrastructure behind it) and adopters (the businesses putting it to work).

Relocating to Malaysia? Here's what you may have missed.

Join us here: https://tinyurl.com/54mep6t6

You’ve landed the visa. Found the house. Got the kids into school. For most people, that’s the finish line.

Relocation “done”.

Then a few weeks in, the questions start showing up one at a time. Can you drive on your old licence, or do you need a new one? Is your insurance from home even valid here? Where do you find people, a real community?

Nobody hands you a list for this part. Most expats figure it out the slow way, one Google search at a time.

We're running a free webinar with two people who've been through it from both sides: Joshua Webley, founder of Expats Club, who's helped thousands of expats relocate and built a 30,000+ member community, and Ryan Long, a financial planning and insurance specialist who works with expatriates at exactly this stage of settling in.

A little preparation now can prevent a lot of stress later.

Helen Thomas, Private Wealth Manager at Melbourne Capital Group, walks through why expat life often creates an unintentional financial imbalance, one partner handles the money, the other manages everything else, and why that can leave a family vulnerable if something happens to the partner in charge of the finances.

Five steps worth putting in place: centralising your financial records, keeping beneficiary designations current, giving a partner joint access for emergencies, having a will and power of attorney (including jurisdiction-specific wills where assets span multiple countries), and reviewing everything regularly.

This preparation isn't morbid. It's one of the most loving things you can do for your family.

What an evening.

Last week, a room full of women sat with entrepreneurs, a business coach, a cardiologist, a divorce lawyer, a wealth manager, an OBGYN, and a psychologist, and asked the questions most of us have been carrying quietly for years.

Not polished questions. Real ones. About what happens to your assets if your marriage ends. About the perimenopause symptoms you've been normalising. About whether your cash savings actually protect you. About the mental load that doesn't have a name until someone finally gives it one.

That's what Health. Wealth. Her. was about. A room where women could finally get straight answers from the people who actually have them.
We're grateful to every panellist who showed up with honesty, and every woman in the audience who asked the question she'd been sitting with alone.
This won't be the last one.

To our panelists and moderators, Nicole Sue, Helen Thomas, Piya Balakrishnan, Rina Ho, Rozana Halpin, Dr Rowina Lynne Murray, Dr Lennie Soo, and Dr Jaspal Singh Sachdev, thank you for sharing your time and expertise so generously.

And to everyone who came ready to listen, ask questions, and connect, thank you for making this event what it was.

A special thank you to Yayasan Jantung Malaysia , Institut Jantung Negara , KCOM Academy , Pistil MY , ParkCity Medical Centre , and My 360 Wellness Hub for being part of this with us.

This is exactly the kind of space we want to keep creating.
