殡葬习俗之《破地狱》
破地狱乃是华人丧礼的重要仪式。 这个仪式以《目连救母》的故事作为蓝本；意义是破开地狱，藉由法力将逝者带离地狱，以便早日投胎超升。 仪式进行时，主持仪式的法师捧着逝者的灵牌，跃过燃烧着的油锅，使其冒出团团火焰，营造出地狱刀山火海的情景。

客家籍的破地狱仪式，更会利用沙堆来筑起工艺讲究的双龙、龟蛇、城门等沙雕，其艺术性与美感让人叹为观止。 破地狱仪式分三步骤进行，开始先游绕沙城、赦关免罪、最后破狱跃火，整个过程大约两个小时。
