“Just discharged last month… this month admitted again 😭”
My client’s child, 1 year 10 months old, was admitted to KPJ Sabah from 9/2/2026 – 11/2/2026 due to viraemia (a viral infection in the bloodstream).
Total covered by the medical card: RM3,769.85
Before they could even catch their breath…
A month later, the same child was admitted again to KPJ Sabah from 23/4/2026 – 24/4/2026 due to bronchopneumonia.
Bronchopneumonia is a lung infection that can worsen very quickly in young children, especially those under 5 years old.
Total bill: RM4,133.45, with RM3,724.85 covered by the medical card (some items are not covered).
Within about 2 months, this child was hospitalized twice, with total costs close to RM7,500.
This client took up a prenatal plan on 16/5/2024. That’s why when things happened, their focus wasn’t on the bill, but on the child’s recovery.
Now look at the track record over about 2 years:
➡️ 15/7/2024 – RM2,000 (Jaundice + phototherapy)
➡️ 11/4/2025 – RM4,380.50 (Admitted to KPJ Sabah)
➡️ 9/2/2026 – RM3,769.85 (Viraemia, admitted to KPJ Sabah)
➡️ 15/4/2026 – RM123.85 (Post-hospitalisation)
➡️ 23/4/2026 – RM3,724.85 (Bronchopneumonia)
🟰 Total claim: RM13,999.05
Young children are naturally at higher risk of hospitalization. It’s not because parents are careless. Their immune systems are simply not strong yet.
So if you’re still thinking “not necessary yet”, ask yourself:
If this happens to your own child, are you really ready?
Planning early isn’t about fear. It’s about understanding that the risk is real.
