🌍 Why This “2 °C” Number Matters for Our Future
In 2015, almost 200 countries came together in Paris for one big reason: to stop our planet from overheating. Scientists warned that if Earth warms more than 2 °C above pre-industrial levels, we’ll cross dangerous tipping points.
💡 Think of our planet like a human body, a fever of just 2 °C might sound small, but it can send the whole system into crisis.
If we pass that threshold, we risk:
🔥 More deadly heatwaves & wildfires
🌊 Faster sea-level rise swallowing coastlines
🌾 Failing crops and food shortages
🐾 Mass extinction of wildlife
🚨 Climate refugees forced to flee their homes
That’s why the Paris Agreement set a global goal:
• Keep warming well below 2 °C
• Aim for 1.5 °C to protect the most vulnerable
To do this, we must cut global carbon emissions nearly in half by 2030 and reach net-zero by 2050.
Every choice we make from the energy we use to the food we eat matters. Governments, businesses, and individuals all play a role.
🌱 A safer climate isn’t just for polar bears or future generations. It’s for us, here and now. Let’s keep the fever down.
