🏥 Today, we visited the hospital and attended a medical talk on Colorectal Cancer.
We learned some very important points:
🔹 Who is at higher risk?
People with a family history of colorectal cancer, smokers, people with diabetes, those who are overweight, frequent alcohol consumption, and high red meat intake may have a higher risk.
🔹 Don’t ignore the warning signs
Symptoms such as:
• Re**al bleeding
• Changes in bowel habits
• Abdominal discomfort
• Unexplained weight or appetite loss
• Anaemia
• Constipation
may require further medical assessment and a colonoscopy.
🔹 Colonoscopy may not be as scary as we think.
The doctor shared that proper bowel preparation is needed before the procedure. Sedation is given during the procedure, which usually takes around 20–30 minutes. Early polyps can also be detected and removed during the procedure.
🔹 Polyps can be a pre-cancerous stage.
Early detection and early treatment are important in preventing colorectal cancer.
