US stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the consumer goods, technology and consumer services sectors led shares higher. At the close in the NYSE, the DJIA gained 0.05%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.74%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.26%. Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the NYSE by 1,432 to 1325 and 80 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1,647 fell and 1,644 advanced, while 141 ended unchanged.
