🏦 The First “Money Changers”
In Ancient Greece, at the Temple of Delphi, and in Roman marketplaces, people needed to exchange different city-state currencies for trade. Since coins varied in shape, weight, and metal content, specialized traders offered currency exchange services to help travelers and merchants convert one currency into another.

These early exchangers were known as “Argyramoiboi” (meaning “silver changers”), and they often worked on marble tables, which inspired the concept of modern bank counters!

💡 Interesting Facts:
In Ancient Rome, money changers also acted as authenticators, helping people identify counterfeit coins.
The word “bank” comes from the Italian word “banca,” meaning “bench,” because early money changers conducted their business sitting on benches in marketplaces.
