📍 Bank Negara caps medical insurance premium hikes at 10%, insurers to spread price adjustments over 3 years until end 2026.

This will result in yearly increases of less than 10% for at least 80% of policyholders. ⬇

• Bank Negara Malaysia has announced interim measures to help policyholders cope with rising premiums for medical and health insurance/takaful (MHIT) products.

• For policyholders aged 60 and above with minimum plan coverage, premiums hikes will be paused for one year from their policy anniversary.

• The central bank also said that policyholders who surrendered their policies following the spike in premiums can contact their insurer to reinstate their medical plan.

• This policy follows news of insurers' plans to raise medical insurance premiums by 40-70%. Malaysia's medical cost inflation hit 15% in 2024, above the global average of 10%.
