Malaysian SME owners: registering your business with SSM doesn’t automatically mean you have official Status PMKS.
Status PMKS by SME Corp Malaysia officially verifies whether your business qualifies as a Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) under Malaysia’s national definition.
Why should business owners know about it?
🔹 Official verification of your SME/MSME status
🔹 May be required for certain government assistance and incentives targeted at PMKS
🔹 Classification is based on annual turnover and number of full-time employees
🔹 Covers Micro, Small AND Medium Enterprises
🔹 Successful applicants receive a digital Status PMKS certificate valid for 2 years
🔹 You can check your eligibility through SME Corp Malaysia’s MyBPI system
Important: Having Status PMKS does NOT automatically guarantee a government grant or incentive. Each programme can still have its own eligibility requirements.
If you run a Malaysian business, it’s better to understand your PMKS status before the next grant, financing programme or SME initiative opens — not after.
You registered your business with SSM. You have a business bank account. You file your taxes. So you're officially an SME in Malaysia, right? Not q
