[Stadium Merdeka Surrounding Tour]
The tour began on a cloudy Saturday morning at the Chinese Assembly Hall, joined by a few people, including a foreigner who works in KL and wanted to learn more about our city.
Shortly after we shared the mining story of KL, it started to rain heavily. We covered the next location, the Chan Clan Study Hall, from the pedestrian bridge while viewing the building from a distance.
Luckily, the rain stopped when we reached the Gurdwara, and sunshine accompanied us for the rest of the route from Sultan Street to the end. With this good fortune, we were also able to visit the 100-year-old bespoke tailor shop, Kwong F**k Wing, which makes bespoke suits for high commissioners and royals.
Although the weather grew hotter and hotter, the interesting stories about the Gospel Hall, Y.W.C.A., Thomas Cup, and Victoria Institution — where the Japanese surrendered during World War II — kept our spirits high. Finally, we ended our journey at Stadium Merdeka, with a story about how passionately Tunku Abdul Rahman loved football.
