The Indian High Commissioner to Malawi, His Excellency Amararam Gurjar, today, 22nd May 2026, toured Nguludi Pumping Station, one of Blantyre Water Board’s key installations constructed with support from the Government of India through the Export-Import (EXIM) Bank.

The visit started at the intake point along Likhubula River in Mulanje, where the High Commissioner appreciated the water supply process before proceeding to Nguludi Pumping Station.

During the tour, His Excellency appreciated the station’s performance and impact since its establishment, while also gaining an understanding of the operational challenges being faced.

“I wanted to see the plant to appreciate its effectiveness and contribution to people’s lives. I am happy to see that the water treatment process is working very well,” he said.

Speaking during the visit, Blantyre Water Board Chief Executive Officer, Yeremiah Chihana, commended the High Commissioner for the tour, saying it signifies the strong partnership between the Governments of Malawi and India.

“Their coming shows their commitment and willingness to continue supporting the Government, especially in the water sector,” said Chihana.
