Happy LOOP Day! 08/18 marks the 1-year anniversary of selling our first policy. 🙌🏾🙏🏾
That first policy milestone was a big one for us but it was anything but smooth.
We had the entire team on standby, waiting for the floodgates to open. We were all tired from working late the night before.
Systems simply weren’t ready yet, and it was looking like a full Public Release was not going to happen.
It takes a long time to stand-up an entire insurance infrastructure and platform.
Rates, rules, forms, systems, processes, regulatory approvals, reinsurance contracts, etc. There is a lot that has to be in place before you can sell Policy #1.
Ultimately, we decided to delay the public roll-out, but we’d be damned if we weren’t going to at least issue our first policy and turn the otherwise let-down into a win.
The first policy took us hours to commission.
It was done through back-end JSON scripts instead of our front-end. It took our CTO a multi-hour call troubleshooting with our partners.
It was anything but glamorous.
But we did it.
And with that, it ushered us into a new era in the company.
Post-revenue.
Fast forward to one year later, and I couldn’t be prouder of the team and where we’re at.
We’ve welcome thousands of members to LOOP, crossed the $1M mark, and have grown and incredible team and culture.
Much work to do yet — but the mission of transforming insurance is well under way and in capable hands.
A reminder to self and others: All big wins take time. Revel in it.
