What a week it was.

Last week Carrick Catalyst hosted two Lekker Network evenings in Mauritius and the response to both was something we did not take for granted for a single moment.

The first evening at Aqui, a Wine Story in Mapou sold out completely before the night even arrived. The second, our West Launch at SPARC in Cascavelle, and brought the same energy to a new part of the island.

Two venues. Two rooms full of South Africans, Mauritians and globally minded professionals who showed up, connected and reminded us why this community is worth building.

Klein Welmoed Vineyards made both evenings something special. A huge thank you to Craig Featherby, Founder and Group CEO of Carrick and Owner of Klein Welmoed Vineyards, who brought a little piece of Stellenbosch to Mauritius and made sure nobody went home disappointed. Bennie Booysen spoke about his wine with a passion and detail that earned every glass.

Thank you to The Lekker Network for creating something genuinely worth being part of. And to everyone who registered, showed up and made both evenings what they were.

This is Mauritius at its best. We are proud to call it home.

US debt concerns, a potential cancer breakthrough and rising UK inflation three themes shaping this week’s market conversation.

• US debt: The US national debt has passed $40 trillion for the first time, while concerns around government borrowing pushed 30-year Treasury yields to their highest levels since 2007.

• Healthcare innovation: Moderna and Merck announced encouraging late-stage trial results for a personalised mRNA cancer vaccine for melanoma, highlighting the potential role of machine learning and technology in drug discovery.

• UK inflation: Inflation rose to 2.9% in July, up from 2.6% the previous month. Higher gas and electricity costs drove much of the increase, while core inflation remained steady.
