💡Financial services: competitiveness, taxation and regulatory reform at the centre of Mauritius Finance’s post-Budget 2026/27 discussions

Following the Budget 2026/27, Mauritius Finance convened its members on 23 June at the Hennessy Park Hotel for its Budget Breakfast Debrief, held in the presence of the Hon. Dr. Jyoti Jeetun, Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning, who delivered a special address.

A special thank you to our panellists:
• Daniel Essoo, Chief Executive Officer, Mauritius Bankers Association Limited
• Assad Abdullatiff, Managing Director, Axis Fiduciary Ltd
• Fazeel Soyfoo, Partner, Andersen in Mauritius
• Anthony Leung Shing, Country Senior Partner & Tax Partner, PwC Mauritius

The panel discussion explored the implications of the Budget for Mauritius’ financial services sector, highlighting both key reforms and emerging concerns around the cost of doing business, regulatory efficiency and long-term competitiveness.

While measures to enhance ease of doing business, digitalization and financial innovation were welcomed, speakers cautioned against the gradual erosion of competitiveness amid increasing fiscal pressures and growing international competition.

As Mauritius prepares for the ESAAMLG mutual evaluation in 2027, our panellists also emphasized the importance of a proportionate, risk-based regulatory approach and continued public-private dialogue.

Discussions further accentuate the need to safeguard the attractiveness of the Mauritius International Financial Centre (MIFC), where agility, effective policy implementation, and regulatory coherence remain critical in an increasingly competitive global environment.
