Impact is not an afterthought; it is a core signal of whether a business model is truly fit for the future.

The most resilient ventures focus not only on financial returns but also on whether those returns are generated in ways that strengthen people, communities, and the planet over time.

This is why we believe in investing with intention, not assumption.

At ShEquity, we apply a gender-smart lens to invest in climate focused businesses, moving beyond surface-level narratives and seeking to understand how value is created and distributed; who benefits, who is included, and who is left behind.

When purpose and performance are properly aligned, businesses become more than commercially viable; they become systems for long-term value creation and transformation.

In that sense, and impact are not competing priorities. They are indicators of how well a business is built.

What does it really mean to be investment-ready?

Many founders think it starts when they begin pitching to investors. In reality, investment readiness starts much earlier. It’s built through the everyday decisions that strengthen a business over time.

That means having:
✔️ A clear and scalable business model
✔️ Strong financial records and reporting processes
✔️ Sound governance structures
✔️ Demonstrated traction and market validation
✔️ A credible plan for
✔️Demonstrated ability to execute

We come across founders with innovative ideas and strong potential, but what determines their ability to attract the right capital isn’t just the quality of the idea; it’s the strength of the foundation behind it and their ability to execute.

Investment readiness isn’t a milestone you reach overnight. It’s built through , preparation, and clarity. The stronger your foundation, the better positioned you are to unlock the , opportunities, and needed to scale.

Celebrating the women building a sustainable and inclusive .

Today, on Pan-African Women's Day, we join the African Union in recognizing the incredible contributions of women across the continent and reflecting on this year's theme: "Women's Action for Safe Sanitation, Peaceful Communities and Better Livelihoods."

Every day, women across Africa are solving critical challenges, building innovative businesses, creating decent jobs, strengthening communities, and improving lives. They are not only participants in Africa's development story, they are leading it.

At ShEquity, we are proud to invest in and support women entrepreneurs who are transforming bold ideas into scalable solutions with lasting impact. We also recognize the investors, mentors, partners, and champions who are advancing gender-smart investing and helping women-led businesses thrive.

When women have access to the right capital, networks, and opportunities, the impact goes far beyond individual businesses. Economies grow, communities become more , inequality decreases, and Africa moves forward.

Today, and every day, we celebrate the women who are driving change and building a more sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous future for all.

Happy Pan-African Women's Day!

Climate action and gender inclusion are deeply connected, more than we acknowledge in practice.

Across , women are not only experiencing the impacts of climate change first, but they are also responding to it in powerful and practical ways. From renewable energy and sustainable agriculture to waste management and clean mobility, women entrepreneurs are building that directly strengthen resilience in their communities.

What we also see, however, is that many of these solutions struggle to reach their full potential; not because the ideas are weak, but because access to , technical support, and networks is still uneven.

When we close that gap, everything changes. These businesses grow faster, profit increases, their impact deepens, and communities become more resilient in the face of climate challenges.

This is why we look at climate and gender together, not as separate agendas, but as interconnected drivers of sustainable growth, because supporting women entrepreneurs and gender-smart businesses is one of the most effective ways to accelerate real climate action on the ground.

If this resonates with you, we'll be glad to hear your perspective on supporting women-led and gender-smart climate solutions across Africa.

We’re often asked what “gender-smart” investing really means.

For us, it’s much more than a label or a box to tick; it’s a way of seeing opportunity differently.

It means investing in businesses founded or led by women, or businesses with gender-inclusive teams, as well as businesses that create meaningful for women through their products, services, supply chains, or employment practices.

Over the years, we’ve seen firsthand that these businesses are not niche investments. They are solving real challenges, reaching underserved markets, and building innovative solutions with the potential to scale.

However, they usually remain overlooked.

sees gender-smart investing as a way to broaden the opportunity set, recognising high-potential businesses that might otherwise be missed, because inclusive businesses don’t just create ; they deliver superior financial returns and build stronger, more resilient economies.

That’s what makes gender-smart investing both purposeful and commercially compelling.

Africa’s green transition cannot happen without women entrepreneurs.

Across the continent, women are building businesses that address key challenges, including transforming agricultural waste into clean energy, improving soil health through climate-smart innovations, advancing circular-economy solutions, and creating more resilient communities.

Yet, these founders face barriers to the financial capital, networks, and technical support needed to scale their .

At ShEquity, we know that women-led and gender-smart businesses are developing some of Africa’s most promising climate solutions. That’s why we invest at the intersection of climate action and gender equity, because inclusive businesses don’t just generate returns; they create jobs, strengthen communities, and drive sustainable economic growth.

When smart capital is paired with the right support, bold founders can turn local solutions into lasting impact.

The future of Africa’s green economy is inclusive, and we’re proud to help build it.

Every milestone in our Unlocking Carbon Credit Opportunities for Gender-Smart Green TA Facility project in Ghana was designed to progressively strengthen participating enterprises on their investment and carbon market readiness journey.

The story of the project is about much more than selecting two winners. It began with 30 promising gender-smart SMEs, each with an impact-driven business model addressing climate challenges.

The project unfolded in several phases, each designed to create value for participating SMEs:
➡️ 30 selected SMEs participated in tailored masterclasses and workshops designed to strengthen their and carbon market readiness.
➡️ 15 shortlisted SMEs advanced to the next stage, working with carbon coaches to develop maps and receiving investment advisory support
➡️ 10 finalists worked with carbon certification experts to develop pre-Project Design Documents (pre-PDDs), underwent investment due diligence, and pitched their businesses before a jury panel.
➡️ 2 winning SMEs were each awarded €25,000 in catalytic funding, together with support to finalize their Project Design Documents (PDDs), accelerating their next phase of .

While only two businesses received catalytic funding, every participating founder gained valuable knowledge, practical tools, and stronger networks to strengthen their business, measure and scale their impact, and better position themselves to access carbon markets. We believe that true lies not just in who wins, but in how we elevate an entire of gender-smart green enterprises toward a more inclusive and sustainable climate future.
