The founder of Mavata, a name inspired by her three children, Sally brings together crochet, colour and creativity to create handmade pieces that are truly one of a kind. She also gives other women an opportunity to showcase their handmade products and works alongside them, helping them gain visibility while contributing to her own creations.

Sustainability is also at the heart of what she does. Sally works extensively with recycled fabrics sourced from factories and couturiers, adding her own creative touch to transform them into something new.

NICโ€™s Entrepreneurial Empowerment Programme shines a light on the journey of the Creative Concept Award winner, Husna Patel.

Inspired by the link between environmental quality and our health, Husna identified an important challenge in Mauritius โ€“ too much waste is still not being recycled. Her idea is to make recycling easier and more accessible by placing reverse vending machines across the island, allowing people to receive money in return for the recyclable materials they deposit.

Through the programme, Husna learnt how to develop a business plan and gained a better understanding of important aspects of running a business, including labour laws she had previously thought she did not need to know.

She also had the opportunity to meet other women entrepreneurs, hear about their business ideas and draw inspiration from their journeys.

Her journey embodies โ€œAnd I See Enn Nasion Anteprenerโ€ โ€” identifying a challenge, thinking differently and turning an idea into a solution that can make a difference.
