When the urge for gung-ho adventurism collides with a blissful ignorance of the world. A 2002 Diahatsu Hi-Jet mini-van bought from Wakefield, The North. Start Goodwood Circuit, Kent, UK on July 23rd. Finish Ulaan Baatar, Mongolia sometime in August (fingers crossed). The Mongol Rally 2011.

10,000 miles from the UK to Mongolia either in an emergency vehicle or an entirely unsuitable vehicle. We

opted for the latter. Raising money for some excellent charities through fundraising and selling the vehicle at the end. All funds will go to charity. For any amount you are willing to give we are grateful.

A tow from the Russian mafia, a 23 hour drive through Russia, a close escape with petrol and a camp fire, herding cattle on a motorbike and a whopping 14 break downs in Mongolia. Sadly, Doris has passed away. We trundle onto Ulaanbaatar without her.

After a valiant 37 days on the road, Doris our Purple Yak has finally passed away, 600km from UlaanBataar. 4 bust springs, 2 snapped leafsprings and a total of 21 breakdowns. God knows how she survived this far. We will hitchhike the rest. In honour of Doris, please raise your flags at half mast.

We've made it to Almaty, Kazakhstan. A week best summed by skirting along the Afghan border with a team of minesweepers, donated explosives, a Tajik army general hitchhiker and his 9mm pistol, 2 Draganov sniper rifles and a $50 b**g. Happy holidays.

Twelve hours under the custody of authorities. Ten hours spent looking for black market petrol. One tyre blown. Two bust door handles. One snapped exhaust. And this is just in Uzbekistan...
