One small step off the aircraft, one giant leap for Malta–US connectivity 🚀😆
Today, 8 June 2026, the first direct scheduled Delta flight from New York to Malta landed in Malta, marking the return of a regular direct air link between Malta and the United States.
Delta will be operating three weekly flights between New York JFK and Malta from June to October.
The last regular scheduled direct / nonstop Malta–USA route has been the Balkan Bulgarian Airlines / Air Malta Sofia–Malta–New York JFK service, which operated between 1995 and 1997.
This means that the 2026 route represents the return of a scheduled direct connection after almost four decades — a very meaningful development for Malta.
For a small island country, accessibility matters. Direct flights make a real difference: for tourism, business, investment, relocation, family travel, and for Malta’s visibility as an international destination.
For US families, investors and businesses looking at Malta, this new connection makes the country feel closer, more accessible, and easier to consider not just as a beautiful Mediterranean destination, but as a serious place to live, work, invest and build connections and presence.
The first Delta Airlines flight from New York landed in Malta today. The new route operates between the Malta International Airport and the JFK International Airport three times a week this summer, arriving in Malta on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays and departing to New York that same day.
