One small step off the aircraft, one giant leap for Malta–US connectivity 🚀😆

Today, 8 June 2026, the first direct scheduled Delta flight from New York to Malta landed in Malta, marking the return of a regular direct air link between Malta and the United States.

Delta will be operating three weekly flights between New York JFK and Malta from June to October.

The last regular scheduled direct / nonstop Malta–USA route has been the Balkan Bulgarian Airlines / Air Malta Sofia–Malta–New York JFK service, which operated between 1995 and 1997.

This means that the 2026 route represents the return of a scheduled direct connection after almost four decades — a very meaningful development for Malta.

For a small island country, accessibility matters. Direct flights make a real difference: for tourism, business, investment, relocation, family travel, and for Malta’s visibility as an international destination.

For US families, investors and businesses looking at Malta, this new connection makes the country feel closer, more accessible, and easier to consider not just as a beautiful Mediterranean destination, but as a serious place to live, work, invest and build connections and presence.

The first Delta Airlines flight from New York landed in Malta today. The new route operates between the Malta International Airport and the JFK International Airport three times a week this summer, arriving in Malta on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays and departing to New York that same day.

Malta held its general election on 30 May 2026, with vote counting taking place on 31 May.

Preliminary results indicate that the Labour Party, led by Prime Minister Robert Abela, has secured a fourth consecutive term in government. The Nationalist Party, led by Alex Borg, finished in second place, narrowing the gap compared with the previous general election.

From a business and relocation perspective, in any country, the key point is continuity.

As Malta Vision 2050 was launched by the current government, the result means that the implementation of this long-term national strategy is likely to continue under the new administration as it was originally intended.

Malta Vision 2050 is Malta’s inspiring long-term national strategy, looking at where the country wants to be in the coming decades — including areas such as economic growth, innovation, sustainability, infrastructure, education, quality of life and Malta’s position internationally.

For investors, internationally mobile families and businesses considering Malta, political continuity and long-term planning remain important factors when assessing the country as a place to live, work, invest or obtain residence status or citizenship.

For many non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals, Malta's Single Permit is the primary route to living and working in the country. Yet despite its popularity, there are still common misconceptions about what the permit allows, how it works, and how it compares to other Maltese residency options.

In our latest article, we break down the Single Permit process, the roles of Identità and Jobsplus, key eligibility requirements, recent developments such as the Pre-Departure Course, renewal considerations, family implications, and how the Single Permit compares with other residence solutions such as the Malta Permanent Residence Programme (MPRP) and the Global Residence Programme (GRP).

Understanding the differences between temporary employment-based residence and independent residency pathways is essential.

With summer around the corner, Malta’s many beaches are waiting to be explored, from crystal-clear bays to sunny stretches of coastline perfect for soaking up the season.

Paradise Bay is a small but very picturesque beach with crystal-clear water. During the week, it tends to be less crowded, making the atmosphere feel calmer and more peaceful.

Another great option is Golden Bay. This beautiful sandy beach can get quite busy, especially during the peak summer months. However, compared to Paradise Bay, Golden Bay is much larger, so even with the crowds, it remains a lovely spot to spend the day.

Close by is Għajn Tuffieħa, also known as Riviera Bay. A highlight here is stopping at Singita, a beachfront restaurant where you can enjoy a meal with stunning sea views, particularly at sunset.

For those willing to take a short trip to Gozo, beaches such as Ramla Bay and Ħondoq ir-Rummien offer beautiful surroundings and a more relaxed island atmosphere.

For those interested in island living in the Mediterranean, Vertex Alliance can assist with permanent residence options and relocation to Malta. To learn more, get in touch with Martine Vella on - [email protected].

Malta has launched a world-first national AI literacy initiative, giving Maltese citizens and residents aged 14+ the opportunity to access premium AI tools for free after completing a short online course.

Through the “AI for Everyone / AI għal Kulħadd” programme, Malta has signed an agreement with OpenAI and Microsoft to provide participants with a free one-year subscription to either ChatGPT Plus or Microsoft 365 Personal Copilot. The subscription is not automatic: participants first need to complete the online AI literacy course, which is designed to help people understand how AI works and how to use it safely, responsibly and effectively.

The course is free, self-paced, available online in Maltese and English, and requires no previous technical knowledge. It is open to Maltese citizens and residents with an active eID account, and Maltese citizens living abroad can also take part.

Once a participant successfully completes the three core modules, they become eligible for access to one of the designated AI platforms under the initiative. Participants can choose between ChatGPT Plus and Microsoft 365 Personal Copilot. The aim is that people do not just receive access to advanced AI tools, but first gain the basic skills needed to use them confidently and critically.

The course content focuses on three main areas:

Module 1: AI Fundamentals & Critical Use
Introduces what AI is, what it can and cannot do, and how to think critically about AI-generated answers, including spotting unreliable or misleading outputs.

Module 2: AI for Everyday Life
Shows how AI can support daily tasks, productivity, creativity, communication and problem-solving, while also encouraging safe and responsible use.

Module 3: AI for Learning
Explores how AI can support study, research, learning and creativity, helping students and lifelong learners use AI as a tool rather than a shortcut.

Participants can also continue with optional additional modules, including AI for professionals, job seekers, entrepreneurship, accessibility and independent living, and formal education for teachers, parents and school communities.

You can find the course here: https://ai4all.gov.mt/
