Jbel Toubkal, the highest point of the High Atlas and North Africa, at 4,167 meters, is located 63 kilometers south of Marrakech. In Berber, “Jbel Toubkal” is called “Adrar n'Dern”.

The highest point in North Africa
The Marquis de Segonzac accompanied by Vincent Berger and Hubert Dolbeau climbed the Toubkal for the first time in 1923, thus detonating the “Jbel Ayachi” (3,747 m) considered until then as the highest peak in Morocco.

A little technical ascent
At its summit, Mount Toubkal has many “Cairn” (artificial heaps of stones) originally built by the Berbers for whom Toubkal is a holy place dedicated to Sidi Chamarouch, a marabout whose tomb is located near the white rock in the village which bears its name at 2310 m stage, towards the Neltner refuge and the Toubkal, a place of worship frequented especially by Berber women and whose entry is prohibited to non-Muslims.

Thus the roof of Africa welcomes many lovers and trekking enthusiasts every year. An ascent that does not present great technical difficulties and which, moreover, is often facilitated by the help and assistance of many mule drivers.

A region alive with high mountain tourism and trekking
Summer remains the best season for climbing Jbel Toubkal. Many inhabitants live from tourism of this mountain, mule drivers, guides, heels, cooks, transporters ... From the road the last accessible village and two days walk from Toubkal is Imlil, the Moroccan “Chamonix”. It is in the Marrakech .imail [email protected] . WhatsApp +212671720633
