Water shapes our lives, economies, and future. Yet, scientists warn we’ve already crossed critical boundaries, and freshwater is at risk. The Global Commission on the Economics of Water calls it a global common good that demands collective action. Without urgent solutions, water insecurity could shrink global GDP by 8% by 2050 and threaten Europe’s financial stability. Inaction is not an option. 🚫

✨ The EIB Institute Foresight Event:
Leaders, investors, and experts gathered in Luxembourg to chart new investment pathways for water resilience, grounded in the EU Water Resilience Strategy and global insights.

This is what we explored:
✅ Place-based, mission-driven investment planning
✅ Cross-sector decision-making for greater impact
✅ Innovative co-funding & mosaic financing models
✅ Multipurpose infrastructure for resilient outcomes

📄 Stay tuned for our upcoming white paper—outlining pathways to strengthen water resilience in Europe and beyond.
💡 This dialogue informs the EIB’s €15 billion Resilience Programme (2025–2027), in partnership with the European Commission.

🙏 Thank you to all participants and partners for your leadership and vision.

Did you know that it is estimated that around one-third of women worldwide experience domestic violence? The true number is likely to be higher because most victims don’t report it.
Spring ACT created Chatbot Sophia to provide a safe, anonymous way for victims to learn about the signs of abuse, gather information and evidence, and plan their escape.
The chatbot helps people collect evidence, such as photos of bruises or screenshots of abusive messages, and store it in an innovative digital safe. The safe is encrypted and accessed via an image within which Sophia hides a password using steganography.

Did you know that, at government level, specialised translators have the job of turning complicated official documents into easy-to-read text? But it’s an expensive and time-consuming task.
AI tries to solve that problem by using large language models to simplify any kind of text quickly and inexpensively.
SUMM AI’s software can be compared to Google Translate: you enter any complicated text, push a button, and it automatically generates a plain text translation. But rather than translating text word for word, the AI distils the meaning of the original, rewriting it with shorter sentences, simpler syntax, and explanations of difficult terms.

“I had an incredible experience” “You are leading an amazing opportunity for intergenerational exchange"...
From 24-28th June (online) and from 29 June- 6 July onsite at the EIB campus in Luxembourg, 80 students from 24 European universities participated in the European Investment Bank Summer School 2024 organised by the EIB Institute.
More than 30 staff members turned into EIB Group Faculty and led by EIB President Nadia Calviño and Vice-Presidents Ambroise Fayolle and Kyriacos Kakouris shared their expertise and perspectives in lectures on the Group’s missions and operations; and in seminars covering policy, financial, development and technical projects related topics.
The EIB Summer School 2024 deepened the graduate students’ understanding of the Group's priorities and activities and offered them the opportunity to interact with EIB Group staff and each other.
Congratulations to all participants and to all EIB Group faculty members! Looking forward to the EIB Summer School 2025!
