Fédération des professionnels du secteur financier, Luxembourg

La Fédération des professionnels du secteur financier, Luxembourg (PROFIL) a été créée à l’initiative des associations professionnelles relevant du secteur financier luxembourgeois. Son but prioritaire consiste à intensifier la promotion de l’image de la place financière à travers une démarche structurée et professionnelle.

L’association réunit les représentants des banques, des assureurs, des fonds d’investissement, des gérants de fortunes, des domiciliataires de sociétés, des PSF de support, des professionnels du capital-investissement, des avocats, des experts-comptables, des réviseurs d’entreprises, de la Chambre de commerce, de la Bourse, de Cetrel et de Clearstream. Elle veille en premier lieu à la diffusion d’une image cohérente de Luxembourg en tant que centre financier à rayonnement international.

Tout en continuant à assurer en priorité la défense des intérêts de leurs associations et institutions respectives, les membres de PROFIL unissent leurs efforts lorsqu’il s’agit de présenter à l’opinion publique les multiples facettes d’un centre financier qui, grâce à l’esprit novateur de ses acteurs et à la clairvoyance des responsables politiques, a su se positionner dans le peloton de tête des places mondiales.

Sa mission amène PROFIL à contribuer également à la promotion globale du Grand-Duché. Ainsi, PROFIL est aussi bien l’interlocuteur des responsables de la promotion au niveau politique du Grand-Duché que celui des instances publiques ayant dans leurs compétences le développement et la surveillance du secteur financier.

Afin de développer la promotion de la place financière à l’étranger, L’Etat luxembourgeois et PROFIL se sont associés pour constituer Luxembourg for Finance, l’Agence pour le Développement de la Place Financière.

The Luxembourg Financial Industry Federation

Intensifying promotion of the image of the Luxembourg financial centre through structured and professional action – that is the declared goal of the Luxembourg Financial Industry Federation that has been set up under the name of PROFIL by the operators who play an active role in the financial centre.

The Federation brings together representatives of banks, insurance companies, investment funds, wealth managers, domiciliation specialists, financial industry service providers, private equity professionals, lawyers, chartered accountants, auditors, the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, the Luxembourg Stock Exchange, Cetrel and Clearstream. Its primary aim is the promotion of a coherent and clear image of Luxembourg as a prestigious international financial centre.

While continuing to give priority to the defence of the interests of their associations and institutions, the members of PROFIL combine their efforts for the presentation to public opinion of the many facets of our financial centre which, through the innovative spirit of its operators and the farsightedness of its political leaders, has acquired a prominent position worldwide.

In the course of its mission, PROFIL also contributes to the overall promotion of the Grand Duchy. It is therefore the discussion partner for the persons responsible for promotion at political level and for the public bodies, which are responsible for the development and supervision of the financial sector.

In order to enhance the promotion of the financial centre abroad, the Luxembourg Government and PROFIL concluded a partnership for the creation of Luxembourg for Finance, the Agency for the Development of the Financial Centre.

Luxembourg is the premier private banking centre in the Eurozone and the second largest fund centre in the world. Due to its stability as well as its innovative and international orientation, the Luxembourg financial centre is an ideal hub for private and institutional investors from all over the world.

From its origins as a Euroloan centre, the country subsequently developed as a private banking centre and then, from the 1980s, as a leading domicile for investment funds. A series of niche activities were added over the course of the last twenty years and today the Luxembourg financial centre is broadly diversified. The success of the financial centre is founded on the social and political stability of the Grand Duchy and on a modern legal and regulatory framework that is continuously updated, inspired by regular consultation between the government, the legislator and the private sector. This legal framework, combined with Luxembourg’s openness to the world and strategic location, has attracted international banks, insurance companies, investment fund promoters and specialist service providers.

The Luxembourg financial centre is characterised by a strong culture of investor protection and rigorous anti money-laundering policies. Its specialist teams are multilingual and multicultural, with a long tradition of financial expertise and extensive knowledge of the needs of an international clientele.

CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS
Guardian Industries Corp., Amazon, Millicom, Paypal, Apple iTunes, Rakuten, DuPont Teijin Films, Fanuc Robotics, Skype and Delphi are just some examples of the international groups that have chosen Luxembourg for their European business headquarters. To these names can be added firms with a global HQ in the Grand Duchy: ArcelorMittal (the world’s leading steel producer), SES (the world’s largest satellite firm), Cargolux (the largest all-cargo airline in Europe) and RTL Group (a major pan-European broadcaster).

These businesses were attracted by different factors: a central location providing easy access to a single market of 500 million inhabitants, the availability of a qualified, multilingual workforce, a diverse range of research centres, the pleasant quality of life, a stable political, social and economic environment, competitive tax and social security costs, a modern legal and regulatory framework and a wide network of double-taxation treaties.

Highly specialised service providers are able to help entrepreneurs chose and establish the most appropriate structure for their business. This might be a "classical" commercial company, a financial investment company (Soparfi), a family wealth management company, a venture capital company or a securitisation vehicle.

Multinational groups, small and medium sized businesses and start-ups can all tap into several state-backed measures designed to support and encourage economic diversification. Two dedicated financial institutions, the National Credit and Investment Company (SNCI) and the Office du Ducroire, offer financial support in the form of loans and export financing.
