SILVER (XAG/USD) | Technical & Positioning Update
GENISYS CAPITAL
21 September 2026
A short position taken during a corrective rally, with reduced risk and a disclosed exception to my daily location criteria.
▪️ Daily: My assessment remains bearish, with the recent advance viewed as a correction within the broader downward trend. However, this entry occurred in daily discount rather than the daily premium area required by my trading plan.
▪️ H4: Price swept a prior high, displaced lower, and broke the marked swing low. The subsequent retracement into supply and the imbalance provided the short setup I entered on Friday, 18 September.
The chart marks 68.310 as the protected high and 62.909 as the downside objective. The bearish scenario depends on the supply area holding and selling pressure resuming.
▪️ Trade discipline: I took this position at half my normal risk. Although the H4 entry pattern met my setup criteria, the trade did not meet my daily location rule. Reduced exposure limits the amount at risk; it does not make the trade fully compliant with my plan.
▪️ COT positioning: COMEX silver futures data as of 15 September, released on 18 September, shows managed money net long 13,124 contracts—down 1,262 from the previous week. Long positions fell by 943 contracts while shorts increased by 319. "Source: CFTC, disaggregated futures-only report" (https://www.cftc.gov/dea/futures/other_lf.htm)
My interpretation: managed money became less bullish over the reporting week but remained net long. This provides a cautious positioning backdrop, rather than confirmation of broad institutional selling. COT is lagged futures data and does not validate the specific entry.
▪️ What I’m watching: Whether the retracement into H4 supply produces renewed downside displacement toward the marked target. A recovery through the protected high would invalidate the marked bearish setup.
