Liberia Ranked Among Top Five Performing Countries Under the RICOWAS Project

Liberia has been recognized among the top five performing countries/institutions under the Scaling Up Climate Resilient Rice Production in West Africa (RICOWAS) Project and the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) initiative. Joining Liberia in this prestigious ranking are Cornell University, Ghana, Nigeria, and Guinea.

The RICOWAS Project which is funded by the Adaptation Fund through Sahara and Sahel Observatory OSS is being implemented in 13 West African countries, including Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Nigeria, Togo, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, The Gambia, Niger, Mali, Benin, Senegal, and Ghana. The project was designed to introduce and scale up innovative, climate-resilient rice production systems that can withstand the impacts of climate change while strengthening regional food security.

Its primary objective is to enhance climate resilience and increase the productivity of rice farming systems among smallholder farmers through the promotion and adoption of sustainable and climate-smart rice production practices.

Liberia’s outstanding performance has been driven by the Community of Hope Agriculture Project (CHAP), which serves as the National Executing Entity for the project, the national focal organization for SRI, and the champion of the “I Love Liberian Rice” campaign.

The achievement was announced during the Regional RICOWAS Project Coordination Meeting, chaired by the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) and supported by funding from the Adaptation Fund.

The ranking was based on the Mid-Term Evaluation of project implementation, which assessed participating countries according to the project performance based on numbers of activities completed, No objections approved.

While celebrating this significant milestone, participating countries were encouraged to accelerate the implementation of Climate Resilient Rice Production and System of Rice Intensification activities to further strengthen food security, climate resilience, and sustainable rice production across West Africa.

This recognition reflects Liberia’s growing leadership in climate-smart agriculture and highlights the dedication of CHAP and its partners in advancing local rice production and improving the livelihoods of farming communities across the country.
Congratulations to CHAP and all stakeholders whose commitment and hard work continue to position Liberia as a leader in sustainable rice production and agricultural innovation in West Africa.

Special thanks and heartfelt appreciation to the Ministry of Agriculture, Key Stakeholders and Rice Value chain and the SRI Champion Network in Liberia. We did this togetherđź’Şđź’Şđź’Şđź’Şđź’Ş

Turning Point for Dulimu Farmers — B**g County!

We are excited to share that Executive Director Bishop Robert S. M. Bimba and team today visited the Dulimu Community in B**g County to present a brand-new BCS 738 Two-Wheel Tractor (Power Tiller) to the Dulimu Farmers Association and officially kick off their first rice harvest of 2026!
The tractor, delivered under the RICOWAS Project with funding from Adaptation Fund through Sahara Sahel Observatory, will rotate among four project communities in B**g County, bringing mechanized agriculture within reach of every participating farmer.
The Dulimu Farmers Association has long stood out for their unwavering dedication. Through consistent use of the System of Rice Intensification (SRI), these farmers have shown the kind of commitment, perseverance, and stewardship that inspires us all. Unlike communities that wait for handouts, Dulimu farmers get in the field and get the work done. đź’Ş
Bishop Bimba commended the association as a model for other communities, true champions in the fight against hunger.
The BCS 738 will reduce manual labor, improve land preparation, and help farmers cultivate larger areas, boosting productivity and strengthening food security for all participating communities. This harvest season marks yet another step in CHAP's mission to move Liberian farmers from subsistence to sustainable, mechanized agriculture — and toward lasting food self-reliance.
Together, we grow. Together, we thrive.

Monrovia, Liberia — The Community of Hope Agriculture Project, in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)/World Food Forum (WFF), Breath of Life International, and Future Farmers USA, successfully hosted a one-day agricultural symposium on May 28, 2026, aimed at empowering women and youth in the agricultural sector.

Held in the conference room of the Ministry of Agriculture, the event brought together more than 30 young people (students) and women actively engaged in agriculture to discuss the critical role women play in strengthening food security, economic growth, and sustainable farming in Liberia.

A major highlight of the symposium was the introduction of Liberia’s first post-war dairy farm initiative, a landmark development expected to contribute to local milk production, job creation, and agricultural innovation across the country.

Participants received presentations and training sessions led by representatives from Breath of Life International, Future Farmers USA and the World Food Forum Liberia Chapter. Discussions focused on modern agricultural practices, youth engagement, women’s empowerment, and opportunities for collaboration within Liberia’s growing agricultural sector.

Organizers described the symposium as an important step toward rebuilding Liberia’s agricultural capacity while creating opportunities for young people and women to become leaders in farming and agribusiness.

The initiative reflects a broader commitment among partners to promote sustainable agriculture, improve food systems, and encourage greater participation of women and youth in national development efforts.

Today marked another important milestone for Liberia’s agricultural transformation as our Postwar Dairy Farm delegates paid a strategic visit to the CHAP office. The visit was filled with meaningful engagement, as both teams shared ideas, experiences, and a common vision for building a sustainable and modern dairy industry in Liberia.

Discussions centered on strengthening collaboration, promoting local dairy production, and empowering Liberian farmers, especially youth and women, with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the sector. The delegates highlighted the goals of the Postwar Dairy Farm Project, which focuses on modern livestock management, milk processing, and technology transfer.

The CHAP team warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed strong interest in supporting initiatives that will reduce Liberia’s reliance on imported dairy products while boosting local capacity.

This visit represents more than just a meeting, it is a step toward a future where Liberia’s dairy industry becomes a source of national pride, economic growth, and food security.
