On this same visa issue in the below post, on 21 December 2023, I responded to Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe Jr. 's lazy argument:
Thank you, Father of the Rescue Mission, for leading with purpose. The Gods are with you. Keep pushing for more as the Rescue Missionaries are not like their Consummate Disciples of Childishness/Complacency who settle for airplane-cake development. We must be intentional about improving the livelihoods of our people.
Under an hour ago, I listened to Sen. Edwin Melvin Snowe Jr. on OK FM lamenting about the duration of US visa for Liberians being 1 year but 5 years in other African countries. This is true and many ordinary Liberians have been wondering. For instance, I had a Mauritian mate who had 10-year multiple entry US visa whereas I carried 1 year in my passport. For Hon. Snowe, as a senior government official, to blame the US for not doing enough for Liberia is shameful. Those countries which have favorable US visa duration didn't just get it but lobbied diplomatically, I believe. What has this government or have past governments done about this? Does Hon. Snowe expect ordinary Liberians to lobby for such favorable visa duration? Why is it that Liberia, which boasts of longstanding historical ties with the US, continues to get 1 year? Aye mehn, Sen. Snowe. Give us substantive reasons why our government has failed to create such opportunity for Liberians, especially entrepreneurs, and stop this childish apportionment of blame on the US. Simple advice: increase the duration of Liberian passport from 5 to 10 years; govern responsibly (fight corruption and strengthen the rule of law) such that you opportunities are unlocked for Liberians; and lobby for the extension of US visa from 1 year to 5 or 10 years. Don't cry baby here...
