We do this because we understand and share your love for everything new and distinct. Ceylon Leather boasts a heritage leading as far back as 1939 when the original facility was established in Ceylon by the British Government. Concentrating more on sturdiness and durability rather than on fashion, this facility produced boots, shoes and other military accessories for the British Forces. With time,
authorities changed hands and paved the way to establish Ceylon Leather Products Corporation. The footwear business was flourishing and the corporation ventured further to introduce a new line of footwear under the DI brand. In 1990 the facility and product range was converted to a Government owned company under the name Ceylon Leather Products Limited. Ceylon Leather was given a new direction when the company was privatized in 1991. Subsequently the company saw rapid development in design and product output as the company expanded factory capacity and market potential. Ceylon Leather Products Limited shares were listed in the Colombo Stock Market in 2003, and currently the main controlling interest of the company is held by Environmental Resources Investments PLC. Towards the latter part of the 20th century the company ventured into casual footwear and bags with comfort and practicality in mind. The basic colours and simple clear cut lines soon became a hit especially in the international leather goods market. The natural leather hues soon changed and the simple lines turned graphical, resulting in a brand new range of footwear, bags and accessories. The casual designs were revamped and fashioned to trendier styles. In 2010 Ceylon Leather launched its exclusive range of footwear, bags, accessories and home-ware. Inspired by nature this range uses natural products to enhance the textured surface of leather. The new designs infuse local hand-woven fabric and natural coconut shells adding spice and allure to the innovative designs. As Ceylon Leather products bring together three local industries using local raw material, the company makes sustainable development its choice. The key to Ceylon Leather’s success is inspiration through Nature and maintaining a balance between human wellbeing and lifestyle improvement, and preservation of natural eco-systems and resources. The natural leather hides used for Ceylon Leather creations are by-products of the local food industry. Vegetable and mineral tanning methods are used for preserving and processing the raw hides before the craftsmen take over. Ceylon Leather’s latest range combines natural products to enhance the texture and colour of leather. The local hand-woven fabric and the all-natural coconut shell add spice and allure to the dramatic designs. Natural Heritage…
