Energy Management Centre [EMC] of National Engineering Research & Development Centre [NERDC] has established in 1986 with the technical and financial consultation of the UNDP Project DP/SRL/83-012. The main task of EMC; at that time, was to improve energy utilization efficiency and minimize wastages issues in industries, commercial buildings, household, etc. In March 1998, as per the country requi
rement, EMC has widened their services to provide solutions to control and monitor environmental issues faced by industries and the communities. Accordingly, EMC has renamed as Energy & Environmental Management Centre [E&EMC]. In 2018; with the restructuring of NERDC set up by aiming to centralize the similar commercial activities carried out in different department, Energy & Environmental Management Centre [E&EMC] has renamed as Energy & Environmental Services Department [E&ESD]. During this period, E&ESD could able to solve thousand number of issues related to energy and environmental fields covering various sectors from multinational level to S&M levels in industries, commercial and government establishments etc. At present E&ESD is a registered institution under the Central Environmental Authority [CEA] to provide environmental monitoring and consultancy services to industries. In 2016, E&ESD obtained ISO 17025 accreditation to the environmental laboratory for mechanical testing and wastewater testing and the certifications have been extended for lamp testing laboratory and refrigerator testing laboratory in 2019. Wastewater testing laboratory of NERDC is ISO 17025:2017 accredited laboratory. We support industries to test all wastewater parameters according to Central Environmental Authority stipulated discharge standards. Environmental Testing Laboratory
Environmental Testing Laboratory is one of the Laboratories operating in NERDC. The Laboratory helps to measure noise levels and ambient air quality in factories. The Laboratory has obtained ISO 17025:2017 for the noise level measurement. Energy Testing Laboratory

Refrigeration Testing Laboratory has the facility of testing energy rating of domestic refrigerators according to the SLS 1960:2020. This is the only one laboratory in Sri Lanka for this test. Lamp Testing Laboratory
