Yesterday, our incredible team crossed the finish line for a great cause. 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Every step reflected our shared commitment to teamwork, community, and making a positive impact beyond the workplace. We were proud to run in support of MySchoolPulse and contribute to a cause, supporting young heroes pursuing education as they bravely continue their schooling in hospital.

Thank you to everyone who participated, cheered us on, and helped make this event a success. Here is to creating an impact, one step at a time.

In a new media interview, Dr. Riad Obegi, Chairman and General Manager of Banque BEMO, discusses the common thread connecting the Bank’s recent initiatives and engagements across Lebanon and Syria: a firm conviction that sustainable recovery must be built through dialogue, cooperation, ethics, and excellence.

Dr. Obegi examines the opportunities emerging from Syria’s economic opening and the role Lebanese businesses and industries could play in the next phase. He also highlights the importance of the Syrian-Lebanese Business Council, chaired by Dr. Laila Al Samman, in strengthening trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.

The interview further addresses Banque BEMO’s recent dialogue with Finance Minister Mr. Yassine Jaber and the President of the Association of Lebanese Industrialists, Mr. Salim Zeenni, as well as the challenges facing Lebanon’s banking sector and the need to restore trust.

“A bank’s greatest asset is trust. Trust is the fuel of an economy and the foundation of society,” Dr. Obegi affirmed.

Dr. Riad Obegi, Chairman & General Manager of Banque BEMO, accompanied by his advisor Ms. Joumana Hobeika, met with H.E. Mr. Tarcísio Costa, Ambassador of Brazil to Lebanon.

The meeting was an occasion to present two of Banque BEMO’s initiatives — “Back to our Cedar Roots,” which plants a cedar in the name of children born to Lebanese mothers and non-Lebanese fathers, and “Dreaming Lebanon,” the national writing competition inviting young Lebanese at home and abroad to express their vision of the country they wish to build. Both carry particular resonance for Brazil, home to one of the largest and most deeply rooted Lebanese communities in the world.

The discussion also addressed the economic opportunities emerging in Syria, drawing on the panel discussion on “Business Opportunities in Syria” recently organized by Banque BEMO. Describing Syria as a new frontier next door rather than one thousands of kilometres away, Dr. Obegi outlined the openings created by the country’s investment reforms and the easing of international sanctions, and the ways in which Banque BEMO — through its Lebanese platform and Banque Bemo Saudi Fransi, Syria’s first private bank — can accompany Lebanese and Brazilian businesspeople seeking to enter that market.

Ambassador Costa expressed his openness to pursuing these discussions further, reflecting a shared interest in strengthening the ties between Lebanon and Brazil across cultural, social, and economic domains.

Banque BEMO convened a panel discussion entitled “Business Opportunities in Syria” at ESA Business School, bringing together prominent Lebanese and Syrian voices from the banking, legal, and business communities to examine the prospects emerging from Syria’s economic opening.

Opening the discussion, Dr. Riad Obegi, Chairman and General Manager of Banque BEMO, framed Syria as “the new frontier next door” — an opportunity that lies not two thousand kilometers away, but at Lebanon’s border.

The panel brought together Dr. Laila Al Samman, President of the Syrian Lebanese Business Council; Me. Youssef el-Hakim, Managing Partner of Hakim Law Firm; Ms. Nada Saliba, Deputy CEO of Banque Bemo Saudi Fransi (BBSF); and Mr. Antoine Miskawy, Senior Director of Corporate Banking at Banque BEMO — presented by Ms. Claudine Feghaly, Executive Director at Banque BEMO. Together, they explored Syria’s investment case, its evolving legal and banking infrastructure, and the concrete pathways now open to the Lebanese private sector.

Banque BEMO held a panel discussion entitled “Business Opportunities in Syria” at ESA Business School, bringing together prominent Lebanese and Syrian voices from the banking, legal, and business communities to examine the prospects opening up for the Lebanese private sector as Syria enters a new economic chapter.

The event gathered Banque BEMO Chairman & General Manager Dr Riad Obegi; Dr. Laila Al Samman, President of the Syrian Lebanese Business Council; Me. Youssef El Hakim, Managing Partner of Hakim Law Firm; Ms. Nada Saliba, Deputy CEO of Banque Bemo Saudi Fransi (BBSF); Mr. Antoine El Miskawy, Senior Director of Corporate Banking at Banque BEMO; alongside business leaders, NGOs, and representatives of numerous embassies with an interest in Syria.

Dr. Riad Obegi framed Syria as an opportunity close to home: “Syria is the new frontier — but it is for Lebanon the new frontier next door, not one two thousand kilometers away.” He stressed that ethical conduct is a precondition for any lasting engagement with the Syrian market.

Dr. Laila Al Samman presented the Syrian Lebanese Business Council as a business platform strengthening trade and investment cooperation between the two countries, and outlined recent reforms under Syria’s revised investment law.

Mr. Antoine Miskawy laid out Syria’s investment case, pointing to its strategic position, young population, and five-million-strong diaspora, and growing international interest across sectors from energy and agriculture to AI and digital transformation.

Ms. Nada Saliba presented BBSF — Syria’s first private bank — and its role in supporting new investors, from entry permissions and legal introductions to account opening and partner matchmaking.

Me. Youssef el-Hakim addressed the legal considerations facing foreign investors entering Syria, including the choice between operating as a branch, a locally incorporated company, or through a Syrian partner.

This event reflects Banque BEMO’s commitment to institutional dialogue as a foundation for stronger economic ties between Lebanon and Syria.

Some people leave behind memories.
Georges Hayek left behind a way of doing things with humility, integrity, dedication and unwavering commitment.

As Corporate Secretary of Banque BEMO and Secretary of the Executive Committee of le Club de la Gouvernance at the Institute for Finance and Governance (IFG), Georges was the quiet force behind the form. Ten months since his passing, we have chosen not simply to remember him — but to honour him through something he would have deeply appreciated: a contest that celebrates vision, discipline, and the art of seeing the world differently.

Banque BEMO, ESA Business School, the Institute for Finance and Governance (IFG) and the Club de la Gouvernance, are proud to announce the launch of the first edition of “Through Georges’ Lens”Photo Contest, in memory of Georges Hayek.

This competition is open exclusively to the talents: employees, students and alumni of Banque BEMO and ESA Business School. Because tribute, when it is sincere, begins at home.

A distinguished jury will evaluate the photographs submissions: Marie-Noëlle Fattal, Photographer, Nada Karam, Artist Photographer and Eddy Bitar, Co-Founder of Live Love Lebanon.

The kick-off meeting has taken place. The lens is ready. The rest belongs to those who knew how to see, just as Georges did.
