Over the years, the celebration of International Women's Day in our country has undergone significant changes and gradually lost its original meaning. In fact, March 8th is primarily an opportunity to remind us all of the extensive work that needs to be done to achieve gender equality.
⠀
In September last year, the AIFC became a signatory to the UNDP's International Network of Financial Centres for Sustainability (FC4S) Gender Finance Charter. It has been joined by 39 financial centers, servicing 82% of the global equity market with a volume of $84 trillion. Members of this initiative are encouraged to promote at least two principles from the FC4S Gender Finance Charter annually.

Social finance is part of the AIFC's sustainable finance program. Thus, in 2021, in addition to "green" bonds, new products were introduced - social and sustainable bonds. In 2023, the AIFC Green Finance Centre provided an assessment for the gender bonds of the MFO KazOnlineFinance for the amount of 20 billion tenge to support women in business and help reduce gender inequality, and for the first gender bonds of Kyrgyzstan in 2022, where Asia Bank aims to support female entrepreneurs by financing their business projects.

Several national programs and the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan's addresses have identified social issues as a priority for the government. To increase financing for social initiatives that take gender aspects into account, the Green Finance Centre is working to ensure that the social taxonomy is adopted by the government by 2025.

⚡️We are delighted to share with you a recent compilation of the figures and numbers of the Astana International Financial Centre in February 2024.

🔸AIFC hosted the event “AIFC Connect: London 2024”, gathering about 120 representatives from more than 70 foreign companies
🔸Ordinary shares of Air Astana began trading on the AIX exchange
🔸According to the AIFC analytical report, participants of the financial centre contributed over 90 billion tenge in taxes to the national budget.
🔸AIFC achieved recognition by the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) as a netting-friendly jurisdiction.
🔸Changes and additions to the “Rules of Currency Regulation” were approved, broadening access for AIFC participants to Kazakhstan's financial market.
🔸AIFC released an analytical report on capital market based on AIX exchange activities
🔸The AIFC Court and IAC resolved 29 cases (comprising 6 judgments, 8 arbitration awards, and 15 mediation settlements)
🔸Leading lawyers recieved the AIFC Legal Awards 2024 for their contributions to the development and promotion of AIFC law

🔸Delegations from Mongolia, Bashkortostan, and China visited the AIFC to explore its activities
🔸The pilot project testing fiat gateways between the AIFC's digital assets exchanges and Kazakhstan’s commercial banks has concluded
🔸The total traded value on the AIX reached KZT 19,81 bn ($43,96 mln)
🔸With the assistance of the Direct Investment Fund of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the AIFC Green Finance Centre, SAIPRO GROUP issued the first corporate green bonds in the Republic of Uzbekistan
🔸The AIFC and "SK-Pharmacy” LLP entered into a Memorandum of Understanding for the development of contract manufacturing of medicines and to attract investments from global players to Kazakhstan
🔸The AIFC Court and IAC resolved 30 cases (comprising 6 judgments, 7 arbitration awards, and 17 mediation settlements)

📌A reinsurance pool is a voluntary association of insurance and reinsurance companies. Reinsurance is the transfer of part of the risk from one insurance company to another, and a reinsurance pool allows the parties to reduce their financial risks by redistributing them among the pool participants.

Turan has been established to enhance financial opportunities for reinsuring significant risks in the Central Asian region, and will operate on the basis of a joint activity agreement, based on the AIFC legislation.
⠀
Currently, insurers from 4 countries in the region have made a contribution to Turan: Halyk Insurance Company JSC (Kazakhstan), APEX INSURANCE JSC (Uzbekistan), AzRe Reinsurance JSC (Azerbaijan) and Aldagi Insurance Company (Georgia).

It is planned to reinsure risks in such areas as: construction, traditional and green energy, financial lines, fleet, aviation, as well as risks associated with property and civil liability.

In 2023, the Astana Financial Services Authority (AFSA) held a number of meetings with the pool's initiators to explain to them the regulatory requirements and opportunities of the AIFC for this type of activity.

The jurisdiction of the AIFC is an internationally recognized and transparent business hub, where financial initiatives of a regional scope can be structured and implemented on the basis of English law.

🌍 During the 10th Summit of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS), President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, announced that the OTS member countries had supported the initiative to designate Astana as the financial centre of the Turkic world.
⠀
🤝 When discussing Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the OTS, the head of state emphasised the importance of expanding interregional trade and investment in the economy. “The Turkic Investment Fund has a unique role in this endeavour. To improve economic relations, it is necessary to establish a market for “green” finance. As you are aware, Kazakhstan has proposed the creation of a Council of Turkic Green Finance. Moreover, the proposal to grant Astana the status of the financial centre of the Turkic world was supported by all parties,” he stated.

📜 This status will be effective throughout 2024. The decision to grant this status was made based on the "Regulations on granting certain statuses to cities of the Turkic world" which were approved during the Istanbul Summit in 2021.

💹 Astana has earned its reputation as one of the leading financial centres in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, as recognized by the Global Financial Centres Index. The AIFC, functioning as a financial hub, plays a pivotal role in attracting investors and supporting businesses, offering a conducive environment for company growth not only in Central Asia but also beyond. Additionally, The Astana Financial Services Authority has established several agreements and memorandums with financial regulators from OTS member countries, including Turkey and Kyrgyzstan, to facilitate information exchange and the supervision and regulation of these organisations' activities.
