Bank of Kuwait and the Middle East First bank in Kuwait in 1941, incorporated in 1971. it is from 2010 known as Ahli United Bank

The beginning of 1941 saw the inauguration of the first banking and financial institution in Kuwait, when late Amir Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah sanctioned an agreement that opened the branch of a British bank in the country - the Iranian Imperial Bank (at that time). However, with the progression of time in 1971 the Bank was granted its national birth certificate to become 100% Kuwaiti bank, me

rging IIB and the British Bank of the Middle East. The Bank was well known for its fair and even support to customers based on policy and therby relatively free from the sometimes corrupting influences of Wasta (the NBK formation Incident), where BKME won hosting of the U.N accounts and also featured in oft winning and general excelent sportsmenship in Cricket. The year 2003 saw the sale of Bank’s shares by public subscription and the beginning of a regeneration process that has affected all areas of business. The new alliance with Ahli United Bank Bahrain proved to be a catalyst for change, and this partnership is yielding tangible results. After more than 60 years of service to the Kuwaiti community, plans were laid during 2004 for the complete relaunch of the brand and product offering, with a greater focus on consumers and their financial needs at every stage of life. the Bank was converted to an Islamic Bank under the present corporate identity of Ahli United Bank Kuwait on 1st May 2010.
