Foreign Home Ownership / Local Elections / Increase in F-4 Visas
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Korean government has released the latest statistics on foreign land and housing ownership.
🏠 Foreigners currently own 100,216 housing units in Korea, representing 0.55% of the country's total housing stock of 19.65 million homes.
🌏 By nationality, the largest share belongs to:
🇨🇳 China – 57%
🇺🇸 United States – 21%
🇨🇦 Canada – 6%
followed by Taiwan and Vietnam.
🗳️ Korea is currently in the local election season.
📅 Early voting took place from May 29 to May 30, while the official election day is June 3, which is designated as a public holiday.
Foreign residents may participate in local elections if they meet certain requirements, including:
✔️ Being at least 18 years old
✔️ Holding permanent resident status (F-5) for more than 3 years
✔️ Being officially registered as a foreign resident
👥 Approximately 150,000 foreign residents are eligible to vote.
📄 Meanwhile, following the implementation of the unified residency measures for overseas Koreans earlier this year, more than 36,000 individuals have obtained the Overseas Korean (F-4) Visa.
🤝 The Ministry of Justice has also announced the expansion of Overseas Korean Support Centers, adding 14 new centers nationwide and increasing the total number to 37.
📈 Additional budget support will also be provided to strengthen services for overseas Koreans living in Korea.
