On May 21 2026, H.E. Mr. Toufiq Islam Shatil, ndc, Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Republic of Korea, joined the Honorable Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, H.E. Mr. Kang Gi-jung, and other high-level dignitaries in the grand opening ceremony of the Gwangju Food Fair 2026. Ambassador Shatil delivered an insightful speech during the opening program, depicting Bangladesh‘s expanding outreach to the global market of food products, and emphasizing on enhancing trade collaboration with South Korea in this sector. Following the opeing ceremony, H.E. Mayor Kang Gi-jung and the VIP delegates visited the Embassy of Bangladesh pavilion. The dignitaries sampled traditional Bangladeshi foods and praised the distinct taste and premium quality. The Embassy remains committed to promoting Bangladesh's exportable food products in Korea, including through the participation in different fairs and events in the ROK. The Gwangju Food Fair, the largest food fair in Korea, would continue until May 24, 2026.

Earlier on the same day, H.E. Mr. Ambassador held a meeting with Mr. Kim Sangug, Executive Director of the National Asian Culture Center (ACC) in Gwangju. The ACC is a public institution under Korea‘s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, with the responsibility to enhance cultural ties with Asian countries. During the meeting, ACC‘s Executive Director highlighted their already existing regular engagements with Bangladesh since 2010; and H.E. Ambassador expressed willingness to work on further strengthening people-to-people contact through cultural exchanges. Two sides agreed to explore together the ways and means for further expanding bilateral cultural cooperation between South Korea and Bangladesh, including through organizing regular exchange of cultural troupes, organizing photo and art exhibitions and undertaking projects on translation of reputed literarary works.

On 21 May 2026, Mme. Kazi Sayma Hoque, spouse of the ambassador of Bangladesh to the Republic of Korea, hosted a cultural luncheon for the members of the ASAS (Ambassadors‘ Spouses Association in Seoul) at Bangladesh House in Seoul. The guests were warmly received by the Spouses of Counsellor (Political) and First Secretary (Political) of this Mission.

Mme. Hoque, who is the current Treasurer of ASAS, delivered a presentation on Bangladeshi heritage and culture through showing the intricate handicrafts from various parts of Bangladesh focusing on ‘Nakshi Katha’. She specially mentioned how Bangladesh turned its beautiful hand-crafted products into exclusive exports like Fine Bone China and High end leather goods. As food is a very special part of Bangladeshi culture, varieties of food were served and introduced by the host.

ASAS gave farewell to Mme. Chaba Mavura of Tanzania, spouse of the newly appointed Permanent Representative of Tanzania to UNHQ. Participants from about 20 countries and international organizations attended the programme.

SEOUL, May 20, 2026 – The Embassy of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Seoul is pleased to announce the successful and high-profile participation of Bangladesh at the Korea Seafood Show 2026, which commenced yesterday, May 19, 2026, at the COEX Exhibition Hall B in Seoul. Running from May 19 to 21, 2026, the prestigious three-day event represents a major milestone in deepening economic integration and bilateral trade cooperation between Bangladesh and the Republic of Korea in the marine fisheries and seafood sectors.

The international exposition was officially inaugurated yesterday morning by Mr. Young-Hoon Chung, Chairperson of the Korea Fisheries Association (KFA). His Excellency Mr. Toufiq Islam Shatil, ndc, Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Republic of Korea was present in the inaugural ceremony. Mr. Md. Nazmul Haque, Commercial Counsellor of the Embassy, also accompanied the Ambassador at the ceremony.

Following the main inaugural event, His Excellency the Ambassador officially inaugurated the Bangladesh pavilion by cutting the ceremonial ribbon. Under the banner of the Bangladesh Marine Fisheries Association (BMFA), a three-member business delegation from Deep Sea Fishers Limited is actively participating in the exhibition. This presence follows a breakthrough Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in February 2026 between KFA Chairperson Mr. Young-Hoon Chung and BMFA President Mr. Enam Chowdhury. The bilateral agreement aims to drive technical exchange, trade relations, and joint-venture investment opportunities between the two nations.

Visiting the Bangladeshi pavilion, His Excellency the Ambassador interacted with the delegates and commended Deep Sea Fishers Limited for its strategic focus on expanding its market footprint in South Korea. He assured them of the Embassy's unwavering institutional support to help bridge connections with prominent Korean importers, wholesalers, and major retail distributors. The Embassy is actively facilitating business-to-business (B2B) matchmaking consultations for the delegation during the expo to promote high-quality Bangladeshi seafood products to both Korean and global buyers.

The successful commencement of Bangladesh’s participation at the Korea Seafood Show 2026 highlights the country's rising competitiveness in the global seafood industry. It underscores a shared commitment to building a sustainable, high-value economic partnership between Bangladesh and South Korea.

The Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA) has arranged free Basic Safety and Health Training for Foreign Workers in 17 languages, as well as fire safety guides for foreign workers in South Korea. The 3- hour course will cover 9 basic safety contents, which might be very useful to prevent workplace accidents.

Bangladeshi EPS workers are encouraged to take advantage of these materials to help prevent workplace accidents and keep themselves and their fellow workers safe.

Bangladesh Embassy in Seoul and BSIA Conclude first ever Semiconductor Roadshow in South Korea

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA – May 14, 2026 – The Embassy of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Seoul, along with Bangladesh Semiconductor Industry Association (BSIA), has successfully concluded a high-impact two-day Roadshow in South Korea on 12-13 May 2026, aimed at integrating Bangladesh into the global semiconductor value chain through strategic international collaboration, talent development, and advanced packaging initiatives. The Roadshow commenced on May 12 with a series of one-to-one meetings with Korean semiconductor design houses and the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association (KSIA). A 12 member delegation led by Mr. M A Jabbar, President of BSIA visited South Korea in this regard. The main highlight of the roadshow activities was a Banquet Reception held on 12th May 2026 in DoubleTree by Hilton Pangyo hotel in Seoul. H.E. Mr. Toufiq Islam Shatil, ndc, Ambassador of Bangladesh, delivered welcome remarks highlighting the ample scope of joint collaboration between the semiconductor industries of both countries. He also discussed on the ADB proposed $79 billion, 20-year economic corridor from Teknaf to Tetulia as a future hub for high-tech industrialization creating a specialized ecosystem where semiconductor manufacturing, advanced packaging, and electronics can thrive outside the traditional urban centers. Mr. M A Jabbar, President of BSIA emphasized to enter the semiconductor ecosystem through focusing strategic pathways like design verification, embedded system and advanced packaging.

The following technical Sessions featured insights on ‘Silicon River’ initiatives from Prof. Muhammad Mustafa Hussain (Purdue University, USA) followed by capabilities overviews from seven leading BSIA member companies, namely Dynamic Solution Innovators, Test Bangladesh Limited, Ulkasemi Private Limited, Neural Semiconductor Ltd., PrimeSilicon Technology Inc., Siliconova Limited, MARS Solutions Limited. The Vice President of SK Hynix Mr. Chang Hyun Kim and Ms. Inji Yeom from McKinsey shared their packaging success story and the evolution toward AI-era memory packaging technologies.

On 13 May, The BSIA delegation met high officials of different semiconductor & research organizations including Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), SK Hynix, Hana Micron, Korea Semiconductor Industry Association (KSIA), Koolmicro, Y-Tech, Growith Associates during their 2 days roadshow. A significant milestone of the road show was achieved with the signing of Letter of Intent (LOI) between KAIST Global Commercialization Center (GCC), Center of Research Excellence on Semiconductor Technology (CREST) and BSIA. This agreement aims to foster joint research, talent development and capacity building in the semiconductor sector.

The successful conclusion of this roadshow underscores the growing economic and technological partnership between Bangladesh and South Korea. This is expected that Bangladesh’s emerging industry would be highly benefitted from the technological and economic cooperation from the global leaders of Korea in Semiconductor manufacturing. The Embassy of Bangladesh in Seoul remains committed to supporting these initiatives to transform the nation into a global high-tech destination.

Today on 15 May 2026, H.E. Mr. Toufiq Islam Shatil, ndc, Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Republic of Korea, called on H.E. Mr. Park Yoonjoo, First Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Seoul. During the meeting, they discussed the full spectrum of bilateral relations between two friendly countries which included political and economic cooperation, trade and investment, ongoing negotiations on Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), employment of Bangladeshi workers under the Employment Permit System (EPS) and other mechanisms, infrastructure development, and multilateral cooperation, among others.

Ambassador Shatil also met Ms. Lee Min-kyong, the new Director-General for Asia and Pacific Affairs Bureau of the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs at her office. They also discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation in various sectors.
