No More Invitation to Alfaro From Thai Gov't Spokesman After Learning American Not White House Correspondent But Lobbyist
Jirayu also reveals the government plans to take global media to the Suranaree Task Force in Surin province but the lobbyist won't be allowed to step on Thai soil
At 3:15 PM on August 17, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, a committee member of the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation Command Center (BSCC), revealed that the government is preparing to take global journalists to the Suranaree Task Force in Surin province next week.
The tour will include sites where Thailand was hit by heavy Cambodian weapons, such as hospitals, schools, and civilian areas. They will then be invited to an area where landmines, collected by TMAC officials, have been gathered before being shown an operation to destroy explosive ordnance left from the encroachment on Thai sovereignty.
This comes after a Cambodian news agency reported on Mr. Michael Alfaro, an American citizen, who live-streamed from the Cambodian-Thai border, using a set and claiming to be a White House correspondent for the United States. Since last Thursday night, he has been using violent and slanderous language to make one-sided accusations against Thailand.
"Last week, I wanted to invite Mr. Alfaro, who claims to be a White House correspondent, to come and see the real situation on the Thai side, how badly we were hit by Cambodia. Mr. Alfaro live-streamed, lying and slandering Thailand to the entire world, and said he was a US government journalist. I thought that if he was a real White House reporter, it would be beneficial for him to see the other side, where Cambodia attacked Thai schools, civilian areas, and hospitals. However, we have now found that Mr. Michael is not a real White House correspondent; he is also falsely claiming to be associated with the US President, Jirayu added.
"Yesterday, it became clear that Mr. Alfaro is just a lobbyist hired by Cambodia. Therefore, today the case is closed. He will absolutely not be invited to Thailand," Mr. Jirayu stated.

Pravit Rojanaphruk's take:
The Thai government spokesperson's misstep of inviting an American lobbyist—whose real status was widely known since early yesterday morning not to be a White House correspondent—has caused a stir. When the invitation was withdrawn, Jirayu was criticized by Cambodians and used as an example of Thai people and the Thai government's "duplicity."
This incident wasn't just a foolish mistake on part of Thai government spokesperson Jirayu Huangsap ; it also caused Thailand to lose face because the government spokesperson was accused of saying one thing one day and the opposite the next.
Truly naive.
