OWN DAMAGE MOTOR CLAIMS

1) The insured should, immediately after an accident, notify us of the same. Where a third party is involved, the insured should report the accident to the Police and obtain a Police Abstract Report, which should be forwarded to us, along with other claims documents. The insured should not admit liability to the third party or anyone else.

2) Where the damage to the vehicle is minor and falls below the Excess and there is no third party involved, the insured does not have to
report the accident.

3) Where the damage is minor and falls within the Own Repair Authority limit, the insured may, after reporting the accident, proceed to
effect repairs. He shall then submit the repair invoices/receipts for settlement, which settlement shall be net of the applicable excess.

4) Where the damage is substantial, but the vehicle can still be driven, the same can be driven up to the garage in the panel for
assessment.

5) Where, on the other hand, the vehicle is completely incapacitated, it should be towed to a garage, from where the necessary assessment will be carried out.

6) The insured shall then forward the claim documents together with the applicable excess.

7) The vehicle is then repaired, by a garage of our choice, on the basis of the assessment report.

8) When the repairs have been completed,we then arrange for a Re-inspection Survey to confirm that the repairs are satisfactory.

9) The insured will obtain a Release Letter from us, subject to meeting all the requisite terms. He will then submit the same to the garage.

10) The garage will at this point handover the vehicle to the insured upon signing the Satisfactory Note.

DOCUMENTS FROM THE INSURED.

1) Claim Form duly completed.
2) Police Abstract Report.
3) Driver’s Licence (Copy)
4) Repair Invoices, if repairs are within Own Repair Authority.
5) Towing Charges Invoice/Receipt, where appropriate.
6) Car hire Receipt plus contract form ,where appropriate.

NB: Repairs may take longer than expected depending on the availability of spare parts.

PROFESSIONAL INDEMNITY
This policy covers claims against professionals who, due to negligence and/or poor judgement, have caused losses to their clients, and for which losses the said clients are seeking redress. The insurance company then steps in on behalf of the professional to either settle the claim directly with the third party or to indemnify the professional, where he has already settled the claim, provided the settlement is sound and within the policy terms. Loosely speaking, a professional is a person who has undergone specialized training in a particular field and whose occupation is governed by a distinct code of conduct, setting out minimum standards of performance and ethics. Doctors, Advocates, Accountants, Engineers etc, fall within the scope of this definition.
CLAIM NOTIFICATION
Claims are ordinarily notified to the insurer by the insured, either on his own motion, once he becomes aware of the possibility of a claim arising or when the third party has actually lodged one against the insured.
CLAIM HANDLING & SETTLEMENT
1)Upon notification, the insurer calls for a detailed statement of the facts and circumstances leading to the claim. The underwriter also calls for copies of the pertinent documents, such as court proceedings, in cases of negligence claims against Advocates, for example.
2) If the matter requires the opinion of an expert in the particular field, the insurer may refer the same for such consideration.
3) Once it is established that there is a valid claim, the insurer may opt to negotiate a settlement directly with the third party or indemnify the insured, as earlier stated.
4) If on the other hand the claim against the insured is not a candidate for such settlement, the insurer may resist the claim on the insured’s behalf and defend the matter in court.
