We have officially concluded this year's landmark in Maputo, Mozambique, culminating in our Annual General Meeting (AGM)

A special highlight of today’s AGM was warmly welcoming our newly joined member organizations into the family. As our collective voice grows, so does our strength to foster sustainable, inclusive, and resilient insurance markets across Eastern and Southern Africa

Big news: the annual and AGM will be hosted in the jewel of southern Africa – Botswana. We look forward to gathering once again to continue driving the continent's insurance landscape forward

This afternoon’s closing session at the 48th annual and AGM placed the spotlight right where it belongs: customer experience as the new competitive battleground

The panelists challenged the industry to rethink customer experience, focusing on:

Customers as strategic partners: the industry should move beyond transactional relationships and treat policyholders as partners, co-creating products that truly address their needs, especially for marginalized communities

Ethical AI integration: panelists reiterated that, harnessing AI across underwriting, analytics, and communication isn't just about driving operational efficiency; it's about elevating customer interactions with accuracy and trust

Remaining human-centric: panelists argued that, technology should empower human connection, not replace it. As the African insurance industry adopt emerging tech, keeping empathy at the core of insurance remains critical

Insights shared by the speakers and panelists highlighted that leveraging data and technology, leads to better pricing risk, closing the protection gap, and moving toward proactive climate adaptation

Based on the different perspectives shared, here are key strategic imperatives to build sustainable climate resilience across Africa:

✅Closing the protection gap: shift our mindset from treating climate risks as unavoidable natural disasters to proactively prioritizing adaptation and managed risk

✅Leveraging tech & data: utilize advanced data and technology to accurately price risks and strengthen climate resilience

✅Strengthening public-private partnerships: deepen collaboration among insurers, regulators, and the public sector to create sustainable, long-term risk management frameworks and promote innovation through regulatory sandboxes
