Shelter Afrique Shelter Afrique is the only Pan- African Finance Institution that exclusively supports the development of the housing and the real estate sector in Africa.

In 1982 African governments, the African Development Bank (AfDB), the African Reinsurance Corporation (Africa Re) and the CDC (UK's Development Finance Institution) decided to go together, and they created the first Pan-African Mortgage Finance Institution. Operations began in 1985 and since then the membe

rship of African countries has grown to 44 countries with the promise of more to come. Housing and urbanisation will be one of the contending issues facing the continent in the next decade and Shelter Afrique is at the forefront of this issue. With its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, Shelter Afrique has raised over 500 Million Dollars and has financed over 15,000 housing units in its 31 years of operations. Led by a dynamic senior management team and a professional diverse staff, we are ready for the coming years of sustainable development, growth and housing on the continent. At Shelter Afrique we believe that as we build a house, we build a family and a nation. This remains our commitment to Africa.

A significant step forward for Africa’s housing and urban development sector.

At the Africa CEO Forum, Shelter Afrique Development Bank (ShafDB) and IFC signed a strategic MoU to advance affordable, sustainable, and climate-resilient housing across Africa.

By combining regional expertise with global investment capabilities, the partnership aims to mobilize sustainable financing, strengthen housing ecosystems, and accelerate scalable housing solutions that drive economic growth, create jobs, and improve livelihoods across the continent.
