hello, is it possible to institute proceedings against members for breach of a self-help group’s constitution? the self-help group is registered as such.

Since its official launch in 2007, Kenya Association of Investment Groups has come across severally groups or chamas and managed to unite over 5000 of them. This include groups in Kenya and the Kenyan diaspora who saw a great opportunity that is found under KAIG umbrella.

On our side as KAIG we are proud of these groups because they realized that one does not suppose to depend on a single income rather investment to create a second source. We have tirelessly work hand in hand with any focused group to ensure that its vision comes to a reality by linking it with other investors that are worthy rewarding.

Looking on the other side of coin, we have also encouraged those budding groups to remain united by having consistence meetings that will keep each member updated on the groups' proceedings. Our mobility towards reaching various groups on there local areas for education purpose, has instilled hope to many groups who at times are unable to attend our forums usually held in Nairobi CBD.

Amalgamated Chama Limited (ACL), that became The ‘Chama of Chama’s’, was formed to provide an avenue for investment groups to pool their resources and realize superior long term returns under a serious, dynamic and best-practice run investment group.

It is a limited liability company, formed under the auspices of KAIG in which groups are invited to buy shares. It provides the Kenya Association of Investment Groups with a long term, sustainable financial base.

The Kenya Association of Investment Groups (KAIG) is an association of over 7,000 investment groups, and it is continuously recruiting members. Many of these associations are eager to grow fast, invest in high-value assets like real estate and in the riskier but higher returns SME asset class.

Their rates of growth are however limited by the amount each member can contribute, while at the same time,there are some individual members who could contribute more if there was another investment vehicle available to encourage higher contributions.

As a result some members proposed that KAIG forms an investment company in which groups would pool in resources and then the new company would invest in bigger projects; the same principle behind individuals forming investment groups in the first place and at the same time provide a sustainable funding base for KAIG away from reliance on corporate sponsorships.

The KAIG Board of Directors deliberated on the proposal and came to a conclusion that there was merit in the proposal; and Amalgamated Chama Limited as incorporated in June 2010.
