Let us all Eliminate Debt!!

Debt Snowball Vs Debt Avalanche

Getting out of debt requires a plan. Personal finance experts offer conflicting advice on the best way to eliminate debt. Some people believe that a “debt snowball” is the best way to become debt free. With a snowball, you pay off the smallest debt first. Other people support a “debt avalanche.” With an avalanche, you attack cards with the highest interest rate first. The snowball has human psychology on its side. The avalanche has math on its side.
Which method suit you?
Debt Snowball
To create a debt snowball, list your debt from the smallest to the largest. Your goal is to eliminate the smallest debt first. Make only the minimum payment on all credit cards except the one with the smallest balance. Put all of your extra money towards the smallest debt until it is eliminated. You will then be able to celebrate some quick wins as you eliminate small balance debt. This helps to build momentum and keep you focused.
The most famous proponent of a debt snowball is Dave Ramsey. According to his website, “personal finance is 20% head knowledge and 80% behavior. You need some quick wins in order to stay pumped enough to get out of debt completely.” Becoming debt-free can feel impossible. But the snowball has two advantages. First, it provides you with a clear plan. Second, you will be able to start making progress quickly.
Debt Avalanche
To create a debt avalanche plan, list your credit card debt from the highest interest rate to the lowest. Pay the minimum due on all debt except the card with the highest interest rate. Put all extra money towards the most expensive debt until it is eliminated.
The debt avalanche has math on its side. By eliminating the highest interest rate debt first, you can get out of debt faster and for less money. Imagine you have three credit cards and can afford to pay shs. 500 a month towards your debt:
• Shs. 2,000 on a credit union credit card with a 6% interest rate
• Shs. 6,000 on a credit card with a 19% interest rate
• Shs. 8,000 on a store card with a 28% interest rate
Using the debt avalanche versus snowball calculator , you see that you could save sh.1,301 by using the avalanche method instead of the snowball method. And that is not surprising: by eliminating high interest rate debt first, you will end up paying less interest overall. You would also be out of debt faster.
Which Method Is Best For Me?
The key to becoming debt-free is sticking with a plan. The snowball method is incredibly appealing. You can taste success quickly. Your focus narrows over time on the biggest debts. If you feel like you need quick wins then the snowball might be best for you.
But there is no disputing that you will save more money if you use the avalanche method and have the discipline to stick to it. If you don’t need the psychological boost of the snowball, consider using avalanche and attack those high interest rate balances first.

5 Tips To Stop Being Busy and Start Being Effective
We all are too busy. There is no doubt about that. And thanks to internet and smart phones, we’re also available all the time. However, did you ever notice that the very people who constantly mention how busy they are, are actually the least effective ones? Being busy is not and will never be an indicator of being effective, a sign of a good worker, or make you successful.
Below are some helpful tips for being more effective and less busy:
1. Don’t say yes to every task.
If you have more on your plate than you can actually handle, don’t say yes to another task just to please your boss, your coworkers, or anyone else for that matter. Doing so will only make you less effective, and will likely cause you to feel burnt out. If success and happiness is your goal, you need to learn how to divide your energy between different projects, but also learn to say no and be okay with it.
2. Create time for your friends and family.
Our loved ones are what make life so special and fun. Realize that not everything is about working, and create the time to spend quality time with them. Remember the value of your loved ones. Spending time with friends and family is perfect for recharging yourself and refreshing your mind, all of which is necessary.
3. Prioritize.
If you have a to-do list, prioritize it. This will help you to stop wasting time with the unnecessary tasks, and yes, I promise they exist. For example; don’t constantly check your emails or social media accounts. Don’t feel that you are immediately obligated to respond. Finish what you are working on and then, start responding to emails or returning phone calls. Remind yourself that you cannot do everything at once, and prioritize what you can accomplish.
4. Do not let others distract you.
It’s an amazing thing when you put all of your energy into a task that you’re working on. You find out that it takes way less time to finish something when your 100% focused. Which means you should not let your coworkers or anything else distract you until you finish the task at hand or you’re ready to take a break.
5. Get enough sleep and schedule breaks.
If you’re lacking sleep, it is really difficult to work as efficiently as you want. Therefore, try to get an adequate amount of sleep (7 to 8 hours) every night. Also keep in mind that burnout is a real condition, and to avoid it, set yourself breaks throughout the day to refresh your mind and get away from your desk. This will not only help you avoid suffering from burnout, but will also help you stay driven and in the end, help you finish your tasks faster
