ASEA CONFERENCE 2024 -DAY 2 AFTERNOON SESSION
The final afternoon session of the ASEA Conference 2024 provided an engaging conclusion to three days of transformative discussions among African capital market leaders. The session began with a panel discussion, moderated by Mr. Douglas Kativu, Director of GRI Africa, focused on key Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors shaping African markets. The distinguished panel included Mr. Tarik Senhaji, CEO of the Casablanca Stock Exchange, Ms. Heba El Serafi, Vice Chairperson of the Egyptian Exchange, Mr. John Gibson, CEO of Chobe Holdings Limited, and Mr. Tshephang Loeto, Chief Investment Officer of the Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund. Their insights highlighted the integration of ESG principles into market frameworks and the role of sustainability in promoting economic resilience, offering the audience actionable strategies to advance ESG practices across Africa.
Following the panel, Ms. Lina Tonui, Project Manager of the African Exchanges Linkage Project, presented a detailed progress update on this transformative initiative. She outlined key milestones achieved in enhancing cross-border trading, harmonizing market systems, and improving liquidity within African exchanges.
The session concluded with the exciting announcement that the Rwanda Stock Exchange would host the 2025 ASEA Conference. Ms. Kelebogile Kewagamang, Vice Chairperson of the Central Securities Depository Botswana, expressed sincere gratitude to all participants and organizers. In his closing remarks, Mr. Pierre Celestin Rwabukumba, President of ASEA, emphasized the importance of innovation and collaboration in transforming Africaโs financial ecosystems. The afternoon wrapped up on a high note, leaving attendees inspired to apply the insights and connections gained during the conference to further enhance Africa's capital markets.
