Yesterday on Capital FM, we had a conversation that needed to happen. 🎙️

Pam Mutembei from HEVA Fund and Michael Owino from NCBA Bank sat down on The Jam to talk about what it really means when creative finance meets commercial banking and what it unlocks for creative businesses in Kenya.

The short version? Creative businesses have always had the potential. Now they have a commercial financial partner that understands how they actually work.

Missed it? The conversation continues here. Everything you need to know about HEVA x NCBA Start-Up Incubator Financing is at the link in bio. 👆🏾

Creative businesses need financing that understands how they work.

Through the HEVA Fund × NCBA partnership, we’re bringing together creative finance and commercial banking to give creative businesses more options as they grow.

It’s about making access to finance more relevant to the businesses behind the creativity and helping them move from a good idea or creative practice to a stronger, growing business.

We get this question frequently why a loan and not a grant?

Too Early for Birds has changed the scale of Kenyan theatre, turning stories like those of Wangari Maathai, Tom Mboya and heroic Kenyan women (Brazen) into some of the biggest productions we’ve seen on stage in recent years.

But what does it take to build a business behind the stories?

On this episode of Charged by HEVA, Mars Maasai sits down with Gathoni Kimuyu to talk about the business of theatre, the journey of Storyzetu, and how their creative work has intersected with HEVA along the way.

Every film trailer tells two stories. 🎬

One is the story audiences will experience on screen.

The other is the story of what it takes to bring a film to life. It takes a creative business with a vision, access to finance, and an ecosystem of creatives, suppliers and local businesses working together to make it happen.

Through HEVA's Ota Growth financing, Multan Production moved Tides from concept to production while creating opportunities across Kenya's creative economy.

The production began with a contracted team of 66 professionals, but its impact reached far beyond that. One crowd scene alone engaged nearly 60 extras, creating additional demand for makeup artists, caterers and transport providers. It's a reminder that investing in one creative business creates opportunities across an entire value chain.

Congratulations to the cast, crew and everyone whose talent and dedication brought Tides to life.

🎬 Catch Tides at Century Cinemax Kenya from 8th August.
